F@H 970 sli wu failure

Ok so I have seemingly tried everything to try to get my computer to fold again but for the past three months every WU for my gpu's (gtx 970 g1 gaming in sli) will download and almost instantly fail. At first I thought it was because of my modded bios' but am now flashed to stock on both cards (no oc at all not even through afterburner), then I though it must be the display driver and now I have done about 10 clean installs and tried 3 different drivers between them in the last week with the same results. I have deleted and re-downloaded folding at home a few times to test that as well with no luck. And when this happened a few months ago a fresh install of windows seemed to fix it for about 2 weeks but then the problem came right back again. So please if someone knows of anything else to try short of a clean install again (because trust me after the 4th or 5th time on the same computer they really get annoying.) please let me know.  The log will be posted below the most notable parts i can see are:

Specs:

16g hyperx ddr3

2x gtx 970 g1 gaming's

msi z97 krait edition

evga supernova 1000 80+ gold

P.S: in the configuration of F@H I only have 2 cores on the cpu folding as was recommended. Any help will be much appreciated.

Ok so literally right after posting this I tried rolling my nvidia driver all the way back to 373.06 which is one that was said to be working on the folding forms as well as another few places. And now everything is working perfect. But if anyone knows why the newer nvidia drivers don't seem to work I'm actually curious as to what is different about them. The ones I was trying in the above post are 375.63, 375.70, and 375.95 all of which would give me the same result of constantly downloading WU's and failing them almost instantly (all of which I tried clean installs of several times).

Thank you though for bearing with me this far.

Most likely due to the added telemetry into the drivers, its one variable out of many that the developers don't account for when developing their app

It has been reported there are problems with the latest drivers and folding, and nvidia are aware of it and will fix it in due course. It seems the continuous rush to optimise the driver for every new major game releas means there is perhaps not as comprehensive testing as may be expected. In the past there was talk about them releasing two series of drivers, a frequently updated gaming driver for those on the cutting edge, and a less frequently updated other use driver for those who don't want a new driver install every week or so.

When a previous driver update broke a different distributed computing project, they did take notes on how to test for that scenario so hopefully that wont happen again. I hope they similarly do so for this folding related bug. Of course, that doesn't prevent them finding new ways to break things.

I agree and do understand that they are gaming drivers and not optimized at all for computing tasks like this it just baffles me that three in a row would have the same result. I do understand that it wasn't everyone who was effected, (which to me only raises further questions. lol)  but with the last driver released I don't know a card release or a big game release that went along side it (it was done on 11-18-16) which, unless I missed something means that it was supposed to just be a bug fix for the previous one. Just seems unusual is all not mad at Nvidia they have to make most of the market happy which means the games come first. I mean that was the original intention when i built my computer anyways.

Thank you all for the help though I will keep my eyes out to see when they release a driver that will work with folding.

Given that the last few drivers are part of the same family (in this case, 375) it's not surprising that they all show the same problem. Not only that, if the next driver release is still on the same family, it's very likely that it'll be broken as well.

*Bump*

I have a 970 too and I still cant make it work. I can't roll back the drivers because I want to play BF1.

Did you find a solution?

You know, we can't do magic. The problem IS the driver, there's no solution other than getting a version that works, which means either 373.03 or the hotfix 376.48.

You might be having another issue I've heard of a lot of people being able to run even the 375 series of drivers with single GPU and even my sli system would have one of my 970s folding without problem and the other would be stuck in the fail and new wu loop. And on top of that the new 376.33 should work fine for almost all single GPUs. So you might want to try to do a fresh install of the new one and use display driver uninstaller to get rid of any old ones you might have cluttering things up first. then you have to check to see if maybe your overclock is unstable (if you have an overclock) but beyond all of that I thought I was able to play bf1 on 373.06. But the short answer is to just try out stuff the way that we all have ended up doing to get to this point. lol
