Is 250w fine for the Gtx 1050 2 gb

Noobatpcs

I have a 250w psu and i am wondering if it will be fine with the gtx 1050 2gb. It is recommended to have 300w. Like would there be any major problems and would i be able to game on it without issues?

No major problems. Only minor explosions.

Seriously, why did you get a 200W PSU? Get a cheap 350-400W one

Dont know anything about it, but it already seems sketchy from the name. I would replace it unless you want to risk your entire PC and a possible house fire. Your safety is worth paying $60 for.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

Go here, input all your parts and the website will tell you instantly if there are any issues with the build such as not enough power, incompatibilities etc

I personally never trust those, always considers the bare minimum and leaves little to no room for any error. Use that as a starting point and add 100W at least to be sure.

Not to mention a 250W PSU is likely really bad quality as well.

PCPP usually overestimates the required wattage.

250w is MORE than enough for a 1050 IF it is a quality unit. This not being a good PSU means that while its doable, it's not really recommended.

from the looks, he's running some old crusty prebuilt.

on topic:

i cant recommend you do this, i'm not gonna stop you trying in your own, but i seriously recommend you get a quality power supply instead of that horror show.

Also depends if the 1050 in question needs additional power cables, and whether or not ShadySupply123 can provide the correct connector

from my experience PCPP is actually shockingly accurate for being a piece of software.

also, in theory it's enough, but in practisce you have no clue how much power is going into the rest of the system, or if the mobo can even push the pcie slot's rated wattage. (prebuilts... it's a horror show...)

The 1050 is probably your best option. But you should also probably upgrade the PSU (unless you absolutely can't). And in some games the CPU will be an issue too.

It's accurate for what it is, but you can usually go a decent bit lower than what it says.

He listed his system specs, so you can figure out how much the rest of the system will draw (although, obviously recommended minimums from Nvidia/AMD can't do that).

the best one that leaves a piece of the budget for a decent power supply.

i do NOT recommend doing any upgrades to a prebuilt without swapping power supply to something you can trust.

(exceptions are those where the prebuilt manufacturer has decent listings on the capabilities of the machine like HP's high end workstations)

my rig basicly pulls what PCPP says down to the watt, it's probably a bunch of luck involved as well, but it shows they at least somewhat know what they're on about :P

I'd say most or all games will throttle, even on a 1050

750tis and 1050s use a negligible amount of power compared to one another.

As it's been stated many times though, get a new unit. A Corsair CX450M or Seasonic S12 430W should be fine and neither is drastically expensive.
