Prime95 questions

I have an i5 6600 and I'm using the stock cooler. Summer rolled around where I live and the temps are around 30C. I wanted to run my hardware a bit cooler and decided to undervolt my CPU. I went from 85-87C under p95 load to 69-72C with a 136mv undervolt.

 

1) Opening the p95 torture test window, there are several options to choose from, which one of these is best for CPU stability testing? 

 

2) What is your average Skylake undervolt?  

 

3) What temps are you running under p95 loads?

use aida64iirc its better

Small FFT - work fits inside CPU, so maximum stress on CPU execution units, doesn't really test ram interface. If it fails this, look at CPU settings. 

Large FFT - big tasks don't fit inside CPU cache, so will also stress memory controller and ram. If it passes small but fails this, then look at ram settings.

Blend - bit of both, also doesn't fix the data ram location so it tests more of the ram.

 

I tend to run my Skylakes at 4.2 GHz 1.25v. Two are known unstable at 1.20v in that condition, the 3rd might be but I've not looked in detail. Temps will vary a lot depending on cooling but I tend to find they go unstable if it reaches the 80's.

 

aida64 stress test isn't better, it is just different. Even if you select the FPU test only, it isn't as stressful as Prime95 but gets close.

It's actually not.  It's easier to pass, which is why a lot of people like it.  It makes their less stable high overclocks look good.

i use aida64 and select stress CPU,FPU,CACHE currently running At 4422.5MHz (on all cores)at 1.352/1.36v(1.358v average) at 66c been running for 2 hours 50 minutes so far (i7-3930k, then use gta V to get 'realistic' temperatures whilst gaming

I'm not saying that one shouldn't use AIDA64 as it is a good tool when combined with several other stress test to make up a battery of stability tests.  All I was addressing was the fact that AIDA64 is not "better" than Prime95.
