The sound of an AMD R9 290X reference GPU cooler at 100% fan speed...

Hi guys,

Just thought I would post something cool.

Note: There is a Youtube video above this. In Chrome, click the Grey Shield in the URL bar, then click Load Unsafe Scripts to make it appear.

I'm sure there's a firefox way too, but eh. You'll figure it out.

But holy crap that thing is loud. I can't help but wonder how well it performs though at that speed. I will have headphones on gaming. Sound outside of that is moot. I may very well have this at 100% when gaming. That'd be crazy awesome.

It's like a fricking hair dryer. D:

Holy crap... And I thought my GTX 660 was loud...

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

Would headphones even block all of that noise?

I'll test it out and let you know when I get it. ;)

I honestly can't believe the noise.  Imagine two of these in a system.  Now I have had an extremely loud HSF combo before that sounded like a jet plane.  I wonder how loud this is compared to that ?  I got some work to do to try and find out what it is I had.  I remember I used it to cool an older AMD cpu ...  the AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton.

I doubt it would really go to 100% during a normal gaming load. Besides no one really buys stock amd cards unless they are going to water cool them or buy them at launch.

Be careful, though.

Also I just realized the piece of tape was to show how much air was being pushed out the back. That is a lot of air...

I bought one and am going to water cool... one day.

For now, air cooler it is.

Sound doesn't pile on top of itself. It simply makes a more fuller sound or complete sound. If you had two of these in a system, it would sound exactly the same, but with more of a textured sound.

You will have it die before you get a chance to water cool it.

I find this statement very hard to believe.

I find this statement very hard to believe.

The card at 100% fan speed would be at 64.4 decibles, then add another on the system and it still will be at 64.4 decibles, but observed from another position giving it a fuller sound.

if you put it at 100% itll probably run cool, from what ive seen the stock fan profile is set too low so you have a hot-quiet card....
then you whack it up to 100% (why not 75%?) and everyone screams "ITS SOO LOUD"....without commenting about temps (funny how that gets niglected)

so all the nvidia fanboys say its too hot on low or too loud on max like theyre somehow unable to set a custom fan profile...
its the same fan they've been using for decades and while im not a fan of the....fan, we all know what its like.
my gtx 285 is pretty quiet up untill 60% (nvidia have been using the same fan since atleast 200 series btw) but above that it gets really loud and it HAS to be over 60% otherwise i hit 75*c+ thats the way cooling works.

also where is the screen shot of the fan speeds, are we supposed to just take their word on it?
i say get slick to do a furmark test on both this and the 780/titan at 10% fan speed increments with thier temperitures recorded.

untill then (which is unlikely to happen) NOONE can talk about these cards and how they compare because noone has both cards and compared them.

end of thread.
