I am a gamer (mainly CS:GO) and I wanted to start recording videos and start streaming on twitch but with the GT710 that I have, that is rather impossible. What GPU would you recommend for me (around the 150 dollars). Is AMD better or does NVidia's Shadow Play surpass AMD's Gaming evolved (for recording and streaming). Please help me out

Thanks a lot.

The gamedvr from AMD was really bad.

So bad that AMD has discontinued it in their drivers and you need to download it separately if you want to use it.

If you want to record and stream go with nvidia.

Also, the best current AMD card right now is a 480, which isn't very powerful.

A 1070 would be much better.

i would take a look on the used market for a GTX 970, those go for around $140 here in Sweden

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

yeah I understand that the GTX 1070 would be the best, but that is to expensive. I am hoping to stay in between 120-160 dollars.

As about the GTX 970, I saw that there are cheaper ones now available, but they are a little older. Is it safe to purchase one of those?

The cheapest GTX 970s I see on Newegg are in the 200-250 dollar price range. The absolute cheapest one is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127966&cm_re=GTX_970-_-14-127-966-_-Product

For that price, I'd rather go with a GTX 1060.

from testing on NVENC, intel quicksync, and x264 (cpu) with a very standardized heaven benchmark (in terms of encoding job not too different from CS:GO) i'd say it doesnt matter what you buy, cpu encoding is still where it's at.

short summary:

- x264 is a cpu hog, but basicly more cpu power = better encoding job

- intel quicksync is aside from some oddities pretty darn good, but there's so little power there that it just completely chugs out on the heavier scenes

- nvidia NVENC is similar to quicksync, but with more horsepower behind it, unfortunately it seems to have more "oddities" than quicksync

- i would have tested AMD's GPU encoding potential, but i only have a HD5770 on hand, which wouldnt be the most fair of comparisons :P

if you have the cpu power available, x264 is the way to go, the others are acceptable alternatives if you're not limited to extremely low bitrates.

I'm sorry but this was a little to confusing to me. So do you recommend NVidia over AMD as well?

i havent tested AMD, but i cant quite recommend nvidia from what i've seen. seeing the similarity between nvenc and quicksync i doubt AMD will be much different.

which cpu do you have?

I have a Phenom x4 9650. I know, it's an old one, i'm hoping to upgrade it in near future...

Your gpu won't affect streaming much... So GPU is a matter of preference.

Main PC:

Not much of a difference for both. I've streamed successfully using AMD's software and Nvidia's software.

But the difference lies in the ease of use. Nividia's software is made for idiots. While for AMD its not that easy to setup.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

It doesn't matter who you go with it if you want to record and stream. I'm not sure where this nonsense is coming from not to buy AMD if you wanna steam on twitch. I streamed with my 390 with no problem.

Unless you can find an Rx 470 for $150, a 1050 ti is your best option for your budget. Maybe try and find a used 970 or 390.

Nonsense from pseudo intellectuals who have no clue what they're talking about. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to stream with an AMD card, since you'll be using something like OBS anyways so the shadowplay "advantage" means zilch.

Also the RX 470 is easy to find for 170 bux, and a 10 dollar rebate isn't out of the question.

It's kind of strange. Why is AMD so much worse than intel and nvidia. I have seen benchmarks of AMD equipment. They were equivalent with benchmarks of Nvida GPU or Intel CPU but but those equipments cost less than nvidia or intel. Could it be that the lifespan of AMD is shorter compared to the other 2 companies? Why so much hate towards AMD? Can someone explain to me?

The only things that are bad are AMD processors, AMD is incredibly competitive in the graphics market.
