I considered buying it but Huawei announced they're not gonna launch it in my country. This is the second flagship to not launch here this year; the first being the Pixel phones (which I also considered buying). They did announce that they'll launch something else in the coming weeks but it's probably just a somewhat premium build mid range phone with a premium price tag that no one will care about anyway.

It's starting to become ridiculous but I guess that's what to expect when this is Apple country (almost 50% market share here).

Yes and no. Some things are ridiculous, some things actually have better design. I can't speak for that pencil, but there are some crazy expensive pens out there.

Then there's people that just appreciate design. I have a Porsche Design key ring. It was $350. I like the design.

I thought the P9 was a gorgeous device. I'd love to see an updated model with perhaps a curved screen, the upgraded camera, and some other tweaks.

It's funny you mention the Plus. It's barely smaller than the Mate.

Fair point on appreciating good design, but in the case of this phone, it really just looks like they slapped a couple of pd logos on it and called it a day. IMO there's just nothing really special or standout about the design to justify the price.

You'd be surprised how much difference in in-hand feel there is with that extra 3.5mm of width on the Mate 9 compared to the P9 Plus.

Yes I bring a pair of charged batteries with me instead of wall charger/power bank. Just switch in less than a minute and its back to 100%

My really old Samsung S4 is also still in tip top condition, I use as a backup and for 2fa.

Weird, I use my phone pretty extensively and rarely run out of juice before I get home.

At this point, I'm perfectly fine with my HTC One M8.

Nah, that's basically just like the difference between the Note5 and 7. Noticeable, for sure, but not tooo crazy. Nothing like 5.2 to 5.7 (though, to be honest, I hardly notice the difference between my 5x and Note5).

I thought the exact same thing about the phone. At the same time...it's the only way to get the AMOLED panel, curved screen, and higher capacity RAM and memory. Though the last two are moot as you can simply expand the regular Mate (though it won't be as fast) and I doubt the RAM would be too noticeable.

So in a way it's an entirely remodeled device.

I replace my phone every year, as I'll get a lot more for the old one, making the upgrade cost minimal.

Maybe I just have small hands... :D The difference in width here is the same as my Xperia Z3 compared to my Xperia Z5 Premium, and it's noticeably more comfortable to hold the smaller Z3. Maybe it's also because Z phones have flat sides, whereas the Note phones have thinner, tapered edges and curved backs, so the difference isn't as noticeable.

Replace the OS with Windows 10 Mobile and I could have forgiven the price.

The audio is also lacking. Most high end phones now have some kind of upgraded DAC/amp, with even some more budget oriented phones (Axon 7) getting serious audio upgrades.

Yes, this is something all OEMs should notice, a good DAC/AMP combo makes quite a considerable difference in audio quality and that's what some chinese companies have been adding to their phone

Haha, definitely a possibility ;)
It's most likely the curves though. It makes a massive, massive difference. That's why the iPhone Plus models feel so unwieldy large.

Yeah, holy cow the iPhone plus models are uncomfortable to hold for me. The flat back, thin body, round edges in addition to the thick bezels really does a number on my hands. Makes it feel more like a 6-inch phone imo.

All these people saying "Note 4 is still the best" or whatever..  I recently upgraded to a OP3 from my Note 4, it's so much faster and quick to load / close / unlock & I have better battery life now too. Not to say the Note 4 was bad, but phone technology HAS gotten better since then.

well of course the OP3 or any phone released the year after the Note 4 are going to be faster than it. The Note 4 will always be the phablet king for bringing with it a loooooot of stuff (IR, S-Pen, best display at the time, best SoC at the time, expandable storage, removable battery, UV sensor, hearth-rate sensor, the largest amount of RAM available at the time) only thing it missed was the S5's waterproof and the Note Edge's edge

One day I will be able to play Monster Hunter Frontier in French/Italian/English on my PC, it's just a matter of time... 4 5 6 7 8 9 years later: It's finally coming!!!

Phones: iPhone 4S/SE | LG V10 | Lumia 920 | Samsung S24 Ultra

Laptops: Macbook Pro 15" (mid-2012) | Compaq Presario V6000

Other: Steam Deck
