Is Skylake worth the extra £40

hey guys

 

a haswell PC would cost me £545 and a skylake one would cost me £585. is it really worth it? i plan on selling shitarse (current PC) for around £150 and this would take my budget up to £550. should i wait for the magic money man to put £40 in to my possession (could take some time) or just get haswell

Performance wise, I'd just go with the Haswell because there's barely any difference in performance between Haswell and Skylake. However personally I'd save for the Skylake just for bragging points

dont really care about bragging rights lol and windows 7 is guaranteed to work on haswell, no bullshit

Well unless it is ddr3L, it isn't supported by skylake, it may work on some ddr3L boards, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Skylake doesn't support DDR3. Only DDR3L.

Then this is a moot point. Skylake doesn't use standard DDR3.

Windows 7 will work on skylake, and so will 8, vista and xp if you want. Kabylake is supposed to windows 10 only though.

Microsoft reversed its previous decision to not support Skylake on Windows 7, and now Windows 7 officially gets support for Skylake until 2020.

6500 (non K) and 4460

I'd just go with Haswell. I don't think you'll see any real difference between the two especially since you're at the bottom end of their SKU's.

Chances are by the time he'd need something more powerful than a 4790 he'd be upgrading the entire platform again anyway.

His upgrade to a 4790 would be cheaper than anything on 1151.
