What will you use it for? Macbooks aren't really known for their value and the new ones cant really be called "Pro".

I would probably get a 2015 Macbook Pro 13" if I was going for an apple laptop, I don't like large laptops and I don't like how the 2016 Macbook pro is so limited since it only has 2 or 4 USB C ports.

If you are looking for other recomendations, I would highly recomend the HP Probook, HP Elitebook, HP Zbook, Lenovo Thinkpad and Dell Vostro and Dell Latitude series.

I am deciding between the new 13inch touch bar macbook pro vs the 2015 15inch refurbished macbook pro

How do you intend to use them, for what tasks?

What are the specs of the refurbished 15 inch, and which configuration of the 13 inch will you buy?

On a side note, I tend to prefer staying away from refurbished.  I don't always trust the conditions of the hardware inside, especially the battery.

What ever you choose 8Gb RAM and 256Gb storage is the minimum i would use. Mine sits on about 100Gb used drive space, thats just Xcode, android studio, a few statistics and database related programs, no media or data. Some of that could be cleaned up but its reflective of me using it. How much drive space you need unused depends on who you ask but its generally around 25%.

If you can afford a new one, get a new one. I like what they have done and my only complaint is they haven't updated their other products

It depends on what you're planning to do with it. If it's college related, get the Air (unless you need to run some heavy 3D programs).
If you need to do some "pro" tasks, don't get a MacBook Pro :P

Some "pro" tasks run better on a macbook than other laptops for the price and theres the easy portability factor. If you are doing any kind of work Id recommend the 15' because the specs are probably better and unless your switching to USB C then its easier for you. What are you doing on the laptop>?

I just bought the 2015 13 inch retina MacBook pro base model, and I love it. It's got amazing SSD speeds (650 read, 1300 write), feels snappy, handles final cut pro, photoshop, and eclipse no problem and has great battery life. Would definitely recommend, but go for the larger SSD.
