The GTX 1060 6GB would be better in the majority of titles. The RX 480 would be better in a few select titles such as DOOM (which is one of the games you are planning to play).

1060 6GB if you don't care about having the same performance in the future but still have it from the get go. 480 8GB if you want to see the performance increases later on.

Performance difference is negligible in most cases, so get the 1060 and maybe SLI with another if you need an upgrade in future. Also Gsync displays are cheaper than Freesync ones.

Implying that the GTX 1060 can be SLI'd in the first place...

As for your second point about G-Sync being cheaper than FreeSync... can't tell if you're serious.

You should replace your exhaust fan. That thing sucks at removing hot air since it's a pressure optimized fan. My temps dropped by 10c when I changed it when I still had my 390 in.

I have all my fans on the lowest speed anyway. My 1060's fan don't spin at all, and my CPU cooler probably doesn't even need a fan tbh

1060 is better performing. Both can run games around 60-70fps. If u want to get most out of your 144hz monitor, go for 1070.

Do you have your VRAM overclocked? 1060 gains quite a bit from VRAM overclocking.

Haven't touched it. I just let it boost by itself, it hits over 2GHz on its own. Dunno about the VRAM though.

Tinker with it, you'll gain anything from 5 to 10 fps

1. Read my thread in my signature.
2. If you're buying gpu + monitor, RX480 8 GB + a Freesync monitor.

If you already have a monitor, gtx1060.

I would say go with the RX 480, its usually a tad cheaper and has similar performances in dx11 games and shines in dx12 games. People will say dx12 won't be widespread till much further in the future but a lot of new games that have been coming out are already using it. RX 480 takes the lead in Battlefield 1 and early Titanfall 2 benchmarks puts the RX 480 above the GTX 1060.

AMD tends to support their hardware longer so you might see better performance in the future but this is simply a guess based on past trends; Nvidia can just as well decide to support their hardware longer too. Finally AMD FreeSync Monitors are cheaper so if you plan on upgrading your monitor now or in the future, again the 480 is a good option.

All that being said, if you want better performance in older games and you think you'll upgrade in an year when new cards come out, then go with the GTX 1060 since that has slightly better performance in most current AAA titles.

I've actually been contemplating the same question myself for the past two weeks; between the MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X 6GB and MSI RX 480 Gaming X 8GB. I'm currently working in Japan and the difference in price between the two is only $5 but since I'll probably upgrade my monitor in the future and I tend to use my GPUs for 2-3 years(currently running 7950), the RX 480, I feel is the better choice for me.

as for what Card , id say RX 480 , perf is the same pretty much and you can crossfire it later if you Need more uhmpf, wich requires no cable and is supported by most boards out there , also freesync Panels are dirt cheap

reccomended models are the XFX GTR and the SAPPHIRE NITRO+
