We have magical things called APIs like Vulkan and DX12 which make nvidia look stupid. To say there is no competition is a complete lie. Nvidia needs competition otherwise they are a monopoly and that is not good for anyone including Nvidia. Look at Apple's new macbook pros. All of them use AMD gpus.

It's kinda strange they went back to the x2 naming scheme. Having it as an R9 295 would sound cool but might be confused for a single GPU that's better than the 290 but worse than the 290X (like the 280, 285 and 280X)

For this topic, I would not say Nvidia dominate the gpu market. I analysed the situation on another thread.


Nvidia have the upper hand right now for the high end market but for the middle to lower end, it's an absolute mess. Why? Because G-sync monitors are expensive as hell. No one who would buy a mid range or lower end graphic card have the money to afford this "luxury" item.


They have to either fast-sync or v-sync to eliminate screen tearing and guess what? It's going to limit the performance.

Why AMD is doing so well with the mid to low end market, because their products like the RX470 and RX480 make sense for what you're paying + an affordable Freesync monitor and you'll have a buttery smooth experience without sacrificing the card maximum potential.
