I have read that they are going to release a new gen in Q1 2014, so they wont be changing down from 28nm.

But how can they have a new architecture that is better in just a year?

Because it's Nvidia

We won't know until they are released. So we have a dilemma with your question.

For Example;

2011 - They develop architecture #1 that gets released as the 600/700/Whatever Series

2012 - They develop architecture #2 but aren't able to release it. This gets developed over course of time. Release as whatever

2013 - They develop yet another architecture that replaces both.

Just because they only have one out, doesn't mean they haven't been able to develop yet another. It may just not be finished.

Yes, AMD and Nivida just keep coming back and forth just like marketing is.

Nvidia probably already has two new arc's, but if they come out and stomp AMD into the dirt then that would mean trouble for the market, basically they are holding back. It's the same story with intel, they just don't really have to try all that hard.

They enjoy our money way to much. Plus it's no fun to show everything you have at the start.

Competitive business in an economy. You wouldn't want a monopoly of one GPU manufacturer because then they could artificially inflate prices. It is also just plain competitive nature.

That's very true, I heard their next video card was going to be shaped like a rubbish bin and be power with dual xeons. Maybe even some new lightning rod connector as well. :blink:

I wouldn't be surprised if they are putting the finishing touches on a new architecture that will outperform the titan (to be released next year), whilst having already started the next one.

Don't wait,  don't ever wait.  If you wait for the better card to come you will never own a card, if you wait for real estate prices to drop you will never own a house and if you wait for the next train you will never get home. Buy what you can afford today and enjoy it until you can no longer play games on it.

the Kepler series of cores has been around for about 2years. This includes all GTX 6xx and 7xx cards (titan included) the GTX 7xx of course being a rebrand of the GTX6xx with a few exceptions. Nvidia has done this in the past. New arch > rebrand & tweak >New Arch > brand & tweak.

Right now we are looking at the next new archetexture. Code name MAXWELL. it is rumored to be released/announced Q1 of 2014. It is also said that it will still be on the 28nm process.

BUT there are rumors flying around of Amd and Nvidia messing with 20nms for possibly Q4 2014. This could be a die shrink (like intels tick-tock) of the current archetexture (current then in the future) or it could be a new arch altogether. We have little no info on it.
