i7 4790k Stock clocks running hot

Core i 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generation CPU's have AVX (Advanced Vector Extension) instruction sets. Recent versions of Prime95 run AVX code on the Floating Point Unit (FPU) math coprocessor, which produces unrealistically high temperatures. The FPU test in the software utility AIDA64 shows the same results.

Prime95 v26.6 produces temperatures on 3rd and 4th Generation processors more consistent with 2nd Generation, which also have AVX instructions, but do not suffer from thermal extremes due to having a soldered Integrated Heat Spreader and a 35% larger Die.

Please run only Small FFT’s for 10 minutes.

Your Core temperatures will test 10 to 20C lower.

Apparently you should use v26.6

running an i7 4790k at stock clocks.

 

got a nepton 280L cause i plan on overclocking but...

 

5 mins of prime 95 yield these results.

 

 

 

 

case is an obsidian 750D with 3x 140mm intake, and 3x 140mm exhaust (2 on rad)

 

seems its running too hot for my liking. let me know what you guys think.

Your cooler is proably not seated properly.

Take it off and put it back on but make sure there is alot of thremal paste and screw it incrementally so a bit here and a bit here,

Clean and replace thermal paste. Use some NT-H1 or MX-4. The stock stuff that comes preapplied usually makes bad contact.

Wasn't there an issue with Prime 95 and Haswell cpu's?

Welcome to the club mate.

 

For custom water loop and my temps get to 80°C and sometimes even higher.

i7 4790k is not soldered with IHS, so thermals are bad.

 

Still your temps seems too high if you are on stock voltage and with decent cooler.

after reseating the cooler, and using a different version of prime.. the temps have cooled down to mid-80s. whilst still high... they're a lot better
