2666 DDR4 on 2133 CPU and Mainboard ?

Hi,

 

I'm about to buy new PC rig, I have few questions about that
> If the CPU and Mainboard supports up to 2133MHz DDR4, can it support the 2666MHz DDR4 ?
> The PSU said have 225W Real Power and 450W max power, what does it mean ? If my computer used more than 300W can it be 300W too ?

Ram will probably work, but it'll at least downclock it (to what freq I don't know) if it does work. I would strongly suggest upgrading PSU

that sounds like a very dodgy PSU, as above suggested, best to upgrade that. it also doesnt have any 6+2pin power connectors, so if you were to ever add a gpu that requires more than pci power, you'd have to upgrade the psu anyway.

And the RAM will underclock itself to a frequency that to me seems to be randon, i have this problem (2400mhz ram, mobo supports 2400, cpu only supports up to 2133mhz) and mine downclocked itself to 1333mhz, you'll have to change the frequency in the bios to whatever the highest is that it lets you.

the ram will work, i have 2666MHz ram myself and it got downclocked. its a bad idea if you have a build that consumes 300 watts and you have a 300 watt psu, change the psu to a corsair cx450m

It will support the memory just fine, make sure you enable the XMP profile in your BIOS/UEFI and it will automatically overclock itself to the rated speed (2666 in this case).

 

I would suggest looking for a better quality PSU though. You shouldn't cheap out on that part, if things go south it could potentially ruin the rest of your hardware.

You need to check with the motherboard manufacturer. They often list all the tested compatable ram with the motherboard.

 

If it's not on the list it still might work, and will downgrade itself if needed.

 

It's important to check with the motherboard manufacturer for compatible ram!

You'll be fine just enable XMP if you want it at that speed.

 

That PSU though... replace it before you regret it...

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

I was in doubt whether I should get that 2666 Memory or no since CPU and Mainboard only support 2133. 
I'll need to find another PSU.

2133 MHz is the JEDEC standard for DDR4, and so it's the default for all compatible Intel processors. They "support" higher frequencies through XMP, which is a RAM settings profile you can enable on Z170 motherboards, and/or through old school memory overclocking.

 

I don't think H110 motherboards support overclocking of any kind, which includes XMP, so it won't matter what frequency the memory you buy is advertised as. Any DDR4 is going to run as 2133 MHz in that board. Just get what makes sense for your budget.
