What kind of noise to be exact?

Dying HDDs tend to do the "click of death" as the heads can't do their magic and suddenly swing around.

You can use a tool like CrystalDiskMark (or is it CrystalDiskInfo?) to ping its SMART info and use https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.#ATA_S.M.A.R.T._attributes to figure out if any of the red entries are racking up.
