WoW SLI performance at 4k

AlphaPolack

Good morning.

A few days ago a guildie and myself got in a discussion as whether or not World of Warcraft supported SLI configurations.

My reply was yes, but as with most games optimization varies.

So having 2 GTX-1070s I decided to run a flight path FPS run as a comparison, so that the only variables would be SLI/Single and any "area mob" variances which is nominal.

PC specs:

i7-6700k @ 4.65gHz

64GB DDR4-3333

MSI Gaming X GTX-1070 (out of box, no OC) x2

Samsung 950 Pro 512GB m.2

4k resolution with FPS cap off, 7 view distance, no AA, everything else maxxed.

Flight path from Dalaran to Shipwreck Cove

Just write the information in a nice chart in the summary at the bottom along with some calculations to % increased with SLI. Makes for a better read and help you with your writing and maths.

This is what it looks like to me. @Cereal5 I assume it's the same as well. I can see lines going up and down but that gives me nothing in terms of context.

I have no problem zooming in on it after clicked. FPS on vertical axis, delta sample on horizontal line. Doesn't get any clearer

That's a mighty small SLI increase. One would say in that respect - almost negligible.

Crossfire has good scaling, i just assumed SLI would as well. I've played 4k warcraft on my SLI titans with no issues but never disabled one card to look at the differences.

Also your framerates seem low compared to even the rx480s.

The benchmarks you refer to are for WoD, not legion. Although not a engine overhaul, there were several graphics changes that make minced meat of gpu's.

3 additional levels ABOVE ultra have been added , particle count , and an increased view distance now affects performance drasticly.

It's nothing like the benches TPU have listed for Warlords.

Yes I have a similar question and this thread didn't get very far into answering the OP's question. Yes- Legion is far more demanding than the last expansion was (as well as the graphics engine doesn't work well with the API or something cuz everyone is having these issues).

+25% isn't that much.. considering a 1080 gives a similar jump from a 1070- but I'm sure it scales better at 4K than a single 1080 does. I have heard a few claims that SLI can run +50-60% performance- of course those are at different resolutions.

I have a 1070, 6600k, SSD, 16gb ram and 2560x1080 Ultrawide Monitor. Maxed settings, including SSAA x4 + CMAA, I am getting 35-50 FPS on average. I am wondering if it's more likely I'd see a higher average FPS with another 1070 or a 1080?
