PWM via speedfan broke after new mobo

Dispentry

Hello all,

I have a Cooler Master Hyper TX3,

My CPU fan is a 3 pin fan (so no pwm) and my old motherboard had a 3 coonnector. I was still able to change the speed of the fan trough speedfan, though

My new motherboard has a 4 pin fan controller and i connected my cpu fan correctly (aligning it with the little tab) however this caused my cpu fan to be stuck on 100% all the time. Please help?

Does your motherboard have an option in the UEFI to switch headers between PWM and DC control?

If not, then that's too bad and there is nothing you can do other than buy a fan controller.

Connect the fan to CPU_FAN on your mainboard. Go into the BIOS / UEFI and set the CPU_FAN header to voltage control and not PWM control, which seems to be activated currently.

What motherboard do you have?

SpeedFan didn't break. Fan control is specific to each motherboard and their respective headers.

PWM header supplies 12V continuous, you have to use header that does voltage control.

Correctly incorrect. PWM and 3pin headers are same by default. PWM has extra pin for more accurate control. So both will be 12V by default.

Yes, but I mean't that you can't control 3pin fan from 4pin header as the speed regulating is done by PWM switching instead of voltage control. Unless there is a feature in bios to change between PWM / DC mode.

Not all 4pin headers are pwm.

Sorry for not replying ^^

I don't have voltage control option in my bios as far as i know. I'll scour trough the menu's again tomorrow. Also, it's already connected to the CPU fan header.

Both available fan headers on the board and pwm and aren't appropriate for controlling a 3pin dc fan.

If you would like to lower the speed of the cpu fan, either fan controller or a molex fan adapter with swapped pins for a 5v signal would be my preferred method.

You can also choose to get a pwm fan.

Luckely, as my cooler is a CM hyper tx3i evo, i can swap out the fans. Know any good 90mm fans with pwm? (not too expensive)

Best performance and noise: Noctua NF-A9 or B9

The Netherlands lol :P

Also i scoured my bios, it does have fan options, but they're greyed out, so i am assuming it'd need pwm fans.
