now is the time to buy used GPU

Kyonkanno

Just wanted to share my findings for those who are willing to buy used stuff. I just landed myself a R9 Fury for 250$ on ebay. That's amazing value right there. It offers up to 95% of the performance a 1070 offers and for almost half the price. I tried searching for a used 980 (Ti & non Ti) and they both sell for well over 350$.

@Kyonkanno Do you think that R9 280X for 130-140 EUR is good deal? Or maybe HD 7870 for 80-85?

Looking at them for possible LGA775 quad rig.

280X at that price seems to be a good deal. The 7870, not so much. I spotted a 7950 for 95 USD a couple of weeks ago. I'd recommend you get a 970 for around 160 EUR, that is an amazing deal.

What CPU do you have?

You don't need the box. You can buy an anti-static bag. I sold my reference 980 Ti for $350 on eBay a month ago without the box. If you sell it, just make sure you pack it well, obviously.

Your electricity bill would.

Joking aside, if the 970 still has warranty left, do it. The 7970 core in CF is faster than a 970, but not by much and multi-GPU support is hit and miss. A single fast card is the way to go.

Op, that is great and all, but you can buy a nitro fury for $278 from jet.com, have it be brand new and with full warranty, and pay no taxes (if you did anyway.) for an extra $28, it would be worth it to me to buy new.

Do gpu's have 'mileage'? I was under the impression that they are one of the shortest lasting computer component.

It depends on availability where you live, but 7950s / R9 280s are going for EUR 100 top in Germany (it was 100 and above before the GTX and RX releases, now is mostly 70 and above), and the extra for 7970 or 280X is all over the place (so sometimes they cost the same, sometimes in the 130-140 range you mention).

All depends  @WittyNameHerereally,anything,new or used could break at any time, I lucked out about 3 years ago, I picked up 3 used Gigabyte 7950 Boosts for $375 CDN for all 3,sold 1 the next day for $175,right before the "Bitcoin" thing, after that you couldn't find one for under min $300 a piece.SO  basically 2 3G 7970 Boosts for $200,they have been rock solid all this time. Hell, I still think they were in a Bitcoin rig for some reason even before I got them.Recently I have been buying a lot more "used" parts and haven't had a failure to date.

Never heard of Jet.com However I just checked and they have it for 305. Still, not a bad deal IMO.

With the shop10 discount, it's $305-$30.50 = $274.50, or 278 if you don't use a debit card. ;) Or use triple15 and it's 50 cents more.

Nah, if you got it already and it works just fine then you saved yourself $25, so no reason to feel bad. Just a heads up for anybody else who is in the market.  Also I just always worry when spending so much on an item from ebay.  I don't know why, since i've used the money back guarantee a few times with no hassle, most notably for a 4770K for $220. But I got a 4790K for $180 off ebay and it overclocks to 4.9ghz with 1.27V so it's just like anything else lol.  Wasn't trying to make you feel bad about your purchase though, you have a BADASS card for a great price!

wow, a 4790k for 180$ is an amazing deal! Considering that CPU still gives the 6700k a run for it's money.

Well yeah, I'm rocking my card and is running like a champ. Only disappointment I got was that it cannot be Unlocked to a Fury X. Other than that, Is running very fast and very cool.

Thinking about getting a second 970 instead of upgrading to be honest. I can get a second Gigabyte Windforce for £190 on eBay. Much cheaper than a 1080, and plenty of performance for 2560x1440 and/or 144hz gaming.
