TN Vs IPS

As the title suggests I am wanting to see what the community thinks for a gaming monitor. I know that with IPS you get better quality color, but everything I have seen says that it's not a difference for gaming as your sitting close to the monitor and there's really not a noticeable difference while you game. Just trying to decide about what to buy coming up as far as paying more for an IPS monitor if it's really going to make a difference as I use my rig to game.

There's a very clear difference between IPS and TN. Unless the screen is perfectly angled towards your eyes and you don't move your head, IPS will look better than TN and it's abundantly clear when going back to TN from IPS after using it for a week or so.

If you can afford it, go IPS for the better colors and viewing angles.

Just go IPS. The cost is almost the same as TN, and if it is much more different that probably means you are looking at some really cheap TN monitors, which are horrible.

If it is a good TN monitor and you spend time calibrating it the difference is very minor unless you are doing sensitive stuff like content creation but the viewing angles are usually much better on an IPS, with that said I have used a 27 inch TN 1440p monitor (Dell S2716DG) and as long as you are in front of it you are fine but there are some really crappy TNs with horrid viewing angles.

All LCD monitors have backlight bleed, it isn't something particular to IPS.

IPS is so much better. Switched to IPS from a TN and they are brilliant. Seems more vivid and vibrant. Probably the increased viewing angles and color reproduction.

Unless you're comfortable never moving your head from a single perfect position or get a very good TN panel, the difference is rarely negligible.

I was saying bad example due to the focus being on gaming so they are squeezing the most out of each causing for worse colors at 165hz and such on the IPS.

I video edit myself and game as well. What matters to me more in video editing is a large monitor, higher resolution, and/or multiple monitors. If your monitor is so off that videos on other monitors are all yellow or dark, then you have a bigger problem. Calibrating your monitor isn't hard and IPS has better colors then TN

That's a very helpful answer. Thanks to all for the responses, it's hard because I want to upgrade but budget wise I don't want to burn more than $400-$500 as I don't want to upgrade after for a bit. And I have heard so many mixed answers on this question.
