Build Advice (First Crossfire Build)

AndyKala

I have never really used AMD cards, so I decided to build an RX 480 Crossfire build. Any advice on how I might be able to improve this build? http://pcpartpicker.com/list/7KzPFd It is going to be user for gaming, and maybe a bit of light video editing. I do not want to spend more than like $1,800.

With dx12 and vulkan advancing crossfire doesn't seem bad but eh, in my likeings i just like one powerful GPU instead of two, where double the heat and power consumption

I would go for a i7 and 1070  but thats jsut me

I like AMD GPU'S (the 2 RX480's) because it is 2/3 of the price of the GTX 1080, but performs really similarly. And IDK if the 1070 can do 1080p 144hz either. But why go with an i7?

I mean if your playing cpu intensiveness games the i5 will bottleneck (not so much with the 6600k) so if you can afford it

and 1070 can definitely do 144hz

It looks good to me, though I'd probably switch out the EVO for something else like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V21E0641

But that's just me. I don't like CM branded stuff anymore. Too many bad experiences.

Will the $100 really be worth to get the i7? And will my mobo and cooler be enough to overclock it?

Like i said it depends if your playing cpu intensive games

Example, Gta 5 was one of the cpu intensive games and look at the difference

And in other non CPu intensives games look at the difference, so you decide

Crossfire is a flawed solution, simply get one stronger card over two weaker ones. Get the i7 6700K, the i5 6600K will still bottleneck a GTX 1070 in quite a few games (The Witcher 3, GTA V and Overwatch to name a few) at 1080p 144Hz and hyper threading will prove to be beneficial in video editing.

I've made a few changes but it's still under $1800:

The Z170 - A doesn't fit my Black and Red theme. What was wrong with the Gigabyte one?

Wasn't aware you wanted a black and red theme (overdone colour scheme if I'm honest but I won't contest your choice).

I prefer the BIOS + VRM implementation on the ASUS over the Gigabyte. That's my reasoning for picking the Z170-A. Also, it's cheaper.

Yes, I agree it is overused, but it still is my 2 fav colors xD. Do you know any other good Black + Red mobos that would be good for me?

Your original Gigabyte one is fine if you are happy with it. Asus have the Z170 Pro and MSI have the Gaming M5 and G45 if you want a few other choices.

The motherboard you picked is fine. I'll chuck in my suggestion of the ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING as a good alternative.
