Done with PC gaming

I'm just done. Moving to console, this is ridiculous. Tired of reinstalling broken drivers, trying this, trying that, just to get a game to work. With console, you pop the game in and it just works.. Why am I the only one that experiences these issues 50% of the time I try to game on PC?

Even consoles have problems now. The best thing you can do is just sit on youtube and twitch and watch other people play for you. Why waste any energy or money at all? You get the full experience that way.

although, the ''pop games in and magic happens" type of console is a long forgotten past.

That's how it is on PC too, unless you do something weird or have a broken system.  At least, that's been my experience.

how many games do you use? in my experience, getting a game to work at first can occasionally be a pain, but once it works the first time it usually works every other time. Either way, 99% of the time i download a game and it works fine.

on pc you dont even have to pop the game in, you just click it and it happens

 

then again, OP seems to have a mindblowing amount of question threads regarding pc upgrades, maybe he's just swapping out his GPU every week...

Yea, if I recall I couldn't even get Fallout 4 to run all the time on my PS4. Crashed all the time.

You're just lucky. I've had some incredibly infuriating issues with games on PC.

 

Like for example I recently couldn't get Fallout 4 to run on my laptop at all except in windowed mode which was incredibly low framerates.

If you're a gamer on PC, you should know two things:

1) How to press Start

2) How to fix when Press Start doesn't work.

 

If you're having problems with your PC, I'd start diagnosing what causes your issues. We'd be glad to help you out.

It is so easy to get a PC game to work, yeah sometimes driver updates fuck it up but it is very easy to roll back to the previous version and wait for the next release. If you do it right from the beginning you should have no problem at all, be patient and look for answers to your problems.

Ive had similar thoughts myself. I dont like Windows 10, I dont like the direction Microsoft is going. Ive considered moving my machines to Linux and buying a console for games that done work well on Linux. Because I foresee Windows 10 continuing to have issues from now on. They dont seem to validate updates that good any more.

When I first got my PS4, I turn it on, connect it to the network, said it needed to install and update to work,  the day one install fail and the PS4 would not boot anymore,  I called sony and they told me to ship it to them, because the error was not fixable by me.

 

The same happen to a lot of people at the time the PS4 came out.   So yeah no, consoles do not just work.

While i agree console gaming is much easier. PC isn't really much of a hassle if you have everything set up properly. My latest build has been going strong since March and i haven't had a single driver issue nor any crashes etc. Post up the current system you have and we will see if anything can be done to improve its overall stability etc.

I must buy unicorns because I almost never have issues. At least related to system stability. If I have an issue, the application's either borked or I did it on my own accord. But it usually stops there, it doesn't creep into the system and kill it. I was going to write a blog about this, but I figured it'd be kind of boring.

 

But why not. These are my tenants to keeping a happy system

• Don't install it if you don't need it
  • Driver update? Don't bother unless it's necessary. Graphics cards I'll give an exception if you want to play the latest and greatest games.
  • BIOS update? Don't bother either unless you have a hardware compatibility problem.
  • Motherboard utilities? That's what going into BIOS/UEFI is for.
  • Firmware update? Nope, unless there's a huge problem that exists with the hardware and it fixes that. i.e., if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  • Benchmarking tools? I'll keep them around when I'm running the system through its paces, but no more after that.
  • System utilities? If I poke at them often enough sure.
  • "Convenience programs" like GeForce Experience? They won't really save me time.
• Tools and utilities should do one thing and one thing very well
  • A jack of all trades is open to poor implementation at the expense of convenience.
• Don't run it if you aren't using it
  • While I'd like to think programs will play nice with each other, I'm not inclined to simply believe that's the case.
• Clean up, often
  • An occasional scrub down using CCleaner and what Windows has to give myself a peace of mind at least.
• Have a backup plan.
  • If you're going to do something risky, make sure you know how to back out from it.
  • Reinstalling the OS is always an option. If it isn't, then there's a serious problem there.
• Stop trying to make hardware and software do things it wasn't really designed to do
  • You can use a screwdriver as a hammer, but it won't be an effective hammer. If you are going to try to make the computer your [female dog], you better make sure you're a decent master. Otherwise it'll make you its [female dog].

Basically keep it simple. The more stuff you introduce into your computer, the more problems you'll run into.

 

And if you are running into issues on fresh builds... I'm still going to say you're doing something wrong or you consistently lose the silicon lottery.

For legal games, like through steam. I've yet to find a problem which wasn't fixable with a few tweaks here and there. Most of them I either caused myself or was fixable through little customization.

 

I haven't had a major issue since the original Guild Wars. And back then, when i knew very little about pc's it was because my GPU needed to be updated, so my dad got a new GPU

Many people feel this way when they have had bad experiences which usually comes down to inexperience, but i hope you will stay on PC because you will be missing so many cool extras that you an only get on PC like mods, Better fps. Plus a lot of games run better on PC because they were written for PC then just ported to Consoles.

For a lot of AAA titles, the game is usually coded for consoles, then ported to PC. The console market is really big and pays alot, PC come second now in days.

6. Crashes and hardware failures happen on consoles too. Having such slow hardware means that you'll end up freezing when something "unexpected happens"

The last time pop it in was a thing was with the Orginal Wii. Everything now is the same as a PC but if you have a bigger problem you can't fix it. Not to mention paying $70 a year for online and you don't have steam. Sorta backsliding but if you want worse then go for it. I like PCs more as I like the whole PC part more then gaming. OCing, modding, doing other things then gaming

Lol, no. You have to install updates, log into services and sometimes the game is broken. Last time I had a driver problem was probably more than a year ago.

Consoles are not 100% perfect too. What happened when the psn and x box live network were down for several days, a kid even called cops for help ?. Sure it's much more easier to game on consoles and I am not a console hater or anything like that, but doing things right on PC will not give any problems 99% of time, once you fix those problems. We can't ignore the graphics, resolution and low price of games on steam. These all benefits come at cost of a little bit of optimizations here and there.
