It looks like it is further cut down from the 1060 but ironically enough packing more vram at 4gb

 

 

I think that most people will be disappointed by this card: at only 768 cuda cores, even if pascal, it will probably be just above the 960 in performance. Considering the 950 could overclock to that performance level it means that it's basically unchanged and that they'll be focusing on dramatically lower power consumption, probably way under the original 750 (non ti) even. So it might be like even completely passively cooled and such but the performance doesn't looks like it will be worth it tbh. But it also makes this rumor kind of sketchy because of it.

Original 750 Ti was 75W at 1200MHz on 640 CUDA cores. The 1050 is likely to still be 75W at 1600MHz on the 768 CUDA cores and is probably going to be between a 950 and 960. Just going off the low ROP count.

At the very least 1050ti and this the 1050. I think their naming scheme is like that because they knew the 1050 would be a considerable drop in performance so they wanted to target the "moba" crowd with extremely aggressive power reduction and such.

This doesn't make sense. At all. Why have a higher performing card with a gig less memory? Also, those 768 cores seem a little low. I'd expect a 1024-core version first (1050Ti maybe?) before an even more cut-down version.

The 1060 3gb is probably 1060 chips that didn't pass bining so they re-use them with less vram to save on the manufacturing process. This looks like a completely different chip and memory controller meaning that it would have to be 2, 4 or 8gb instead of 3, 6, 12.

 

Of course there's a big chance the rumor's just fucking BS keep that in mind.

Oh, and Intel is now going to fuck up the laptop mainstream by renaming their lower end SKUs with the same family name as the high end SKUs....

FE coolers with a premium, that does so brands sell their none FE cards higher than the MSRP that Nvidia said and now a card that might as well be a potato. GG Nvidia GG.

This card is a huge joke IMO, do you want me to play CSGO at 720p or what Nvidia?

It's likely going to be 150$ since that's the trend. 1060 6GB is 250$ (300$), 1060 3GB is 200$(250$) and 1050 at 150$(200$)

So exactly what every sane person should have expected then? That's what happens every generation. The flagship is replaced, and every generation below moves down one. Sometimes literally (in the case of the 770, and every AMD card ever before Fiji/Polaris), sometimes in performance only (like the 980 = 780 Ti, 970 = 780, 480 = 290)

at 768 CUDA cores, its not powerful enough to make use of all 4GB effectively.

The 1060 3gb is probably just a way to sell wafers that aren't up to the 1060 mark.

Take a look at this generation though:

 

1070 = 980ti

1060 = 980

 

The performance jump from Pascal was greater than Kepler to Maxwell.

sure, yet by adding 4, they are only marking up the price. They will need 4x DRAM chips, since 1024MB packages are getting quite cheap atm, 2048MB is still in low production numbers and costs a lot (in comparison).
Meaning what should have been a 3GB SKU? is now a 4GB SKU that costs an additional 20-30 USD thanks to that extra DRAM chip. Uneccessary costs for the consumer. This is done purely to increase margins and for marketing purposes. Nothing else.

I hope it to sell around 110-130 and not 150 USD since 150 is asking for much for 960 level performance with the R7 470 around 179 USD (For only 20 percent more cost you get somewhere around 47-43% more performance!). More PCI slot powered cards is always good, but selling it at 150 with only 960 performance would be disappointing IMHO.

Pascal is merely maxwell v2.... they fixed the shitty parts of maxwell and left the rest un-touched.

The boost clock seems suspiciously low, and with other factors I think if this happens like this, it would be a <75W class card. It is about half the flops of 1060. I'm sure there'll be some OC models too with extra power connector. If you assume a non-power limited boost similar to other cards in the range it'll exceed a 960. To have a place in the market all it has to do is cost less than a 960. Personally, I'd only be interested if it was about half the price of a 1060, preferably the 3GB model.

 

As for 4GB of ram... nvidia just can't win there can they? Put in a bit less, that's not enough! Put in a bit more, too much! For the class of card, 4GB means you don't need to worry about it. Move on.
