i know about a week ago i asked 6700k or 6850k, and i decided with the 6700k. but now people i know are telling me the 4790k is just as good, probably even better than the 6700k. im hoping to start school, so i want a pc that can run autodesk programs (they're based on single core use) but also than can run games pretty good. im stuck. help.

It isn't better than the 6700k, and if you can afford the 6700k, get it. Ddr4 isn't expensive and is not obsolete like ddr3.

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

Just now, jimsterino said:

punch those people in the face, then slam a baseball bat to the back of their head...

the 6700k is quite literally the more modern *replacement* for the 4790k.

The 6700k is definitely better, by quite a bit actually.

Biggest CPU improvement there has been in a while.

The i7 6700k is the faster and more powerfull CPU. No doubt, so the choice should be easy.

i7 6700k of course.

It's faster, runs cooler, consumes less power, supports new features (DDR4, M.2 in full speed, USB Type C, etc).

6700k is better than 4790k in EVERY single aspect. In many Countries even in Price sometimes.

There is no reason to buy an old Platform anymore, if the new one is out.
