Building my first PC. Need help!

Hi guys I live in Canada and I wanted some help with building my first pc. I am looking to build something between 1500-2000 CAD. I mostly want to play games on it and some video editing, I want to play games like Civilization, Counter Strike, Elder Scrolls Dark Souls and other AAA titles. I was looking for only 1 monitor like the Asus VX228H 21.5" 60Hz Monitor but nothing has come up that is really good in the price range of around 100-200 dollars, I would like to play on at least 1080p 60hz but more preferably 1440p 60hz. I don't need a mouse or keyboard, but I have an old hard drive from my old PC that has Windows 7 is it possible for my to transfer it over to my new PC so I can run Windows 7. I am upgrading because my old PC was a pre-built, it runs super slow and it's from like 2005. I have thought of the parts but wanted to know your input. Thanks for the help and what do you think?

32 Gb DDR4 RAM is defernetely overkill, go with 16 Gb or something like that. Also watch out with the 1060, people have reported problems with it already...

So is the rest probably

It's hard to say, but I truly believe a good SSD will hold value and consider I it a much so...you could start there, and you might be shocked on how well it can tune up an old PC. At the VERY lease you will be able to use it in a new system.

A couple of things  to note:

1) Welcome to the forum.

2) If gaming is very important to you, you might be able to squeeze in a GTX 1070 into your budget. Maybe drop the 32GB of Ram for 16GB.

3) Monitor prices go up and down. If you're not looking for anything crazy, you can pick one up on sale at best buy or just keep looking online till ou find something you like. I'd recommend an IPS panel, but some people won't see a difference.

4) You will need to reinstall Windows since you have a new motherboard. You can find inexpensive license keys online.

I'll try to come up with a build for you gimme a sec.

Main Rig: CPU i7-4790k / MOBO Asus Z97-Pro (Wifi-AC) / RAM 16GB HyperX Fury 1866 MHz / CPU COOLER Dark Rock 3 / GPU Asus GTX 1070 Strix  / CASE Evolv ATX Tempered Glass / SSD Crucial MX200 250GB / HDD  WD Black 1TB + WD Blue 3TB / PSU EVGA 750G2 / DISPLAYS 2x Dell U2414h / KEYBOARD Corsair K70 RGB Cherry MX Brown / MOUSE Logitech G602

My opinions:
CPU - Great, will work really well

Rad - Again, brilliant, large overclocking potential

MB - I have no experiance with MSI motherboards, I'd be tempted to go for the gigabyte gaming 5

RAM - You don't need that much, 16GB will be more than enough

Storage - Good, one of the faster ssds out there

GPU - at that budget I might opt for a 1070 but the 1060 will work well enough

Case - Looks good, good cable management solutions as well

PSU - I wouldn't go for a corsair PSU personally, EVGA are much more reliable

Monitor - not bad, not great

Thermal paste - never used it, seems alright

Case fans - I have 2 myself :) they work great for me

Also maybe consider squeezing in a HDD (500 GB-1 TB for mass storage), they are usually cheap af. Then use the SSD for the OS and important stuff and the HDD for all the rest

This leaves you with room to add a decent monitor and peripherals for under 2000$. Or you could change the i5 for an i7 if you wanted to. Might help if you do a lot of video editing.
