No other variables? 1070 is better.

Well, at clock speeds, the 1070 has higher average FPS in games than the 980ti, although the 980ti would probably excel past 1440p (Not entirely sure on this though, not done much research into either cards)

Performance wise they are similar but the 1070 is better because it supports new features, is more energy efficient and has 2 more GB of video memory.

1070 kicks ass in games, while it's the other way around with Parallel programming / using CUDA for hardware acceleration like Photoshop, Premiere, After-effects, etc.

Nothing to see here ;)

They are very similar in terms of performance, at "stock" speeds the 1070 will win however the 980ti overclocks a hell of a lot better than the 1070

So it really depends on circumstance which is better but if we took the best 980ti and the best 1070 at max speeds I would be surprised if the 980ti lost

The stock boost clock for the for the 980ti is 1075 and they can be overclocked to around 1600 (on a good card) that's a potential of a 48% increase in performance

The stock boost clock for the 1070 is 1683 and you can overlcock it to around 2100 (on a good card once again) that's only 24% increase in performance, to make matters worse the 1070 boosts more out of the box above the specs than the 980ti. (since obviously the spec is only the min boost)

Even If I lower the 980ti's number a bit it will still win by 10% or more so....

In the end they both perform very similarly unless you get a 980 Ti that can oc to 1.6Ghz.

But does a 48% or 24% increase in clockspeed also imply a 48% or 24% increase in performance?
I wouldn't be able to say that fore sure without some testing.

And if you look at some mass benchmarks between the two cards...
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-Ti-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1070/3439vs3609

Not sure how much difference there would be in games, tho.

After all I would go for a 1070, simply because it is a much more efficient card, even if it was 5-10% slower.

No even a 1450 OC will net you 10% over the 1070's OC so kinda if 10% is similar but the 980ti scales better for overclocking due to the low base clock

Oh I agree the 1070 is a great choice I'm just throwing out some additional info realistically the newer hardware will have better support

Just bought a 980Ti, done tons of research on this. 980Ti is 20-30% cheaper than 1070.

As of now if both cards OC balls to the wall, they are the same. one card will be slightly faster than another.

lets get this out of the way.

-2GB of extra vram is completely useless. I don't see how u could max out 8gb vram.

-future support, after 2 years I expect 1070 to have 5-10% performance lead over 980Ti. but this year it is still a beast. by then I probably move on to 1180Ti.

-1070 is better for VR. VR is like 4K, 4K has been around for years and years now. and is still not a main stream

-Power draw, dumb argument. unless u r a kid who plays games 6-7hours+ a day, u probably won't see any different in your electric bills.

-New features on the 1070 is not a huge jump from 7xx series card to 9xx series.

Wow, a 980ti costs more than a 1080 where I live. At 20% cheaper, the 980ti is a definite buy over a 1070.

Your argument is dumb.
Efficiency is not only noticeable in power draw, but also in heat and I noticed my dual 980s a lot after 15 minutes of gameplay. Even one 980, which I'm running right now, is very noticeable. With more efficient cards, the heat output will decrease.
Also, electricity doesn't cost the same in every country. In Germany it can make a noticeable difference over a year.

That doesn't show a 980ti at 1500 or a 1070 at 2100, but it does tell me that they've optimized the 1070 more than what  I had last seen, which bodes well for the 1070, though it is to be expected to some degree I guess it is a new card after all.

Also it shows just how close the cards are now, as they constantly trade, so you can't go wrong with either if one is much cheaper in your area than the other.

He simply put the value he get in Giga OC tool, this is the clock speed he get when benching.

I'll only suggest grabbing 980 Ti if it's significantly cheaper than the 1070.. like >$50 cheaper.

I live in UK, so my bills cost more than yours. I game a couple of hours a day with 2x290x, my electric bill was never above £110, living with 3 other guys. When I was away for a month, the bill was around 90-100. When I switched to a single 970, my bill stayed the same.

The heat is another story, if ur case have bad airflow then you are screwed e.g. h440, s340, R5. u want something like Air540, 760T, Enthoo pro. any case that has an open front mesh.

Also, an aftermarket cooler is a nono for SLI/CF, u want a ref cooler that push the hot air out of the case, not dump in the case.

Also, it's obvious - the 980Ti's got much more CUDA cores, which matters for stuff like rendering, GPGPU, etc.

Not so obvious because 580 with 512 cores beat/on par with 680 which got 3x more cores in many productivity/GPGPU enviroment. 680 core clock also much higher. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Pros and cons? There is literally no reason to get a 980ti unless you get a smoking hot deal. The 1070 performs equally, and is generally cheaper, and will have better driver support moving forward.
