Thermal Pads? for Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon R9 280X

stellos_artois

Its the 2 fans version one model number is 11221-02-40G for reference.

But long story short I basically had this card for awhile right now from 2013, no problems until 3 days ago one of the fans had issue spinning and it was hitting the sides of the cooler. Basically the fan was not flush with the motor and was spinning way to fast when the graphics card was on load. The fan that died was the one that connect to the lights so I had to sacrifice it. I just ordered 2 new fans from china, but dang the slow shipping... if I only knew if there was a good aftermarket cooler for that card I would of bought it in a heartbeat. That being said after taking all the fans out, heat-sink and cleaning the card from dust and thermal paste. I notice the thermal pads. Do these need to be replace to? or could I just keep them since memory heat doesn't produce that much heat so old would work just fine? Even if I need to replace them I had a hard time to finding the correct thickness until I emailed support and said 1mm will be fine. I am going to use Arctic Silver 5 for my GPU heat-sink. I just don't know what brand of thermal pad is the best or decent for Graphic Cards cause I never experienced this issue before.

TLTR: I took my fans and heat-sink off. should I replace the thermal pads if so what brand so I go for I am looking for 1mm in thickness.

Thinking about these

You can reuse them ONLY for the spots they came from. If you want to replace them, you will need the correct thicknesses as VRAM modules and VRM could use different sizes.

I had to ask them again but all vram spots are 1mm thick but that being said I still dont know what brand to get. So I guess I am best off to leave them be since they are not damaged or peeling off as I can tell.

They'll likely yield similar dissipation. Get the one that fits and is however much you need.
