ESXI takes a little bit to set up, but once it is running there are no issues. There is plenty of documentation out there on ESXI. If you need any help, I am willing to offer some.

Yeah, if someone is going to take it in a couple of months, just store it away where it can get the least amount of dust.  No need to use it for something and (no matter how minuscule) extra wear and tear on what it essentially someone else's computer..
