Purchasing a nVidia GTX 1080

Guys, I am THIS close to purchasing a FE 1080 out of sheer frustration. I'm sitting a 780 right now and it's doing great, but it's beginning to crap out on me. I don't "need" a new GPU, but I've saved up for two semesters with a part time job to get this new GPU and it's sold out EVERYWHERE. If it isn't sold out, the prices are marked up to $800+ USD. I will not go beyond $700 for a new GPU. Help a fellow tech nerd out? Thoughts? Opinions? Guidance?

 

Nvidia, if you're reading this: Why is it that you guys can make new GPU's to install into your newer laptops but you can't make enough to keep the market stocked??

do you have a VR, 4k, 1440p, or 100hz+ monitor...  if not do you plan to get one... if not dont bother with a 1080...
