Good News: New Deus Ex is due to be released in a few days! Bad news: Not on DX12 yet:

We have some extra work and optimizations to do for DX12, and we need more time to ensure we deliver a compelling experience. Our teams are working hard to complete the final push required here though, and we expect to release DX12 support on the week of September 5th!

Well for as much as I wanna be exited about DX12 gaming and go "Yeah, maybe if I contain windows 10 to a virtual machine with GPU passthrough it won't be terrible" I am finding the game support for it, both in terms of available games and performance, doesn't seems to justify it. I can see how people on a budget would like to squeeze every inch of performance out of their hardware but wasn't this game supposed to be fairly significant for the DX12 catalog?

 

It's also interesting to see a case of a partial delay only dropping feature parity instead of delaying the entire game.

I loved playing Human Revolution but i'm a little wary of this game since the the whole "Package upgrade" shill experience some months back.

 

It not arriving with DX12 @ launch is also disappointing given that was one of the big pushes we got.

That sort of nonsense is usually up to the publisher, and that is classic Square Enix. For all we know, Eidos Montreal and Nixxes rolled their eyes as hard as we did at it. For all the bad press this game got, none of it really had anything to do with the creative content of the game itself, so I hold out hope.

 

Obviously, be as skeptical as you want to be, wait for reviews, etc. etc. Honestly, with the post-launch support Nixxes has given Rise of the Tomb Raider, the longer you wait the better the game may be.

to be fair, I believe they realized AMD's Polaris didn't sold well and now they're having to address their AMD bias - if the game does poorly on nVidia's HW, they aren't gonna sell units

This still doesn't answer the question. Does the game require 8350 level of power or 3770k level of power to run optimally at 1080p.

We don't know but we can be reasonably sure it doesn't: System requirements are mostly bullshit. We've caught activison "requiring" over 8gb of ram when in reality the game never struggled on an 8gb of ram rig. Farcry 4 demanding 4 cores when it ran fine on the i3, etc.

Perhaps. Human Revolution ran pretty great on launch. In fact, Human Revolution was one of the best PC releases of that year - very little bugs or performance issues that I can recall.

But it's not the first DX12 title. AOTS was, AFAIK, the first DX12 title, w/ public retail release on March 31, 2016. Granted, not many people play the game, and it's mostly used for benchmarks, but you could say the same thing about Crysis or Crysis 3.

but they announced it back in 2015 saying it'll be the first DX12 with the amounts of ASync the likes of which nobody has ever seen before

One of the most hyped games for me in years. So psyched. Nixxes makes great ports (Deus Ex Human Revolution, Tomb Raider 2013, Thief, Hitman Absolution), but they also made Rise of the Tomb Raider and that DX12 patch, so it seems Nixxes are incompetent at DX12 in general. Surprising given how long they've have to learn DX12 (especially with RotTR) and the 6 months delay on DE:MD. Then again, they outright disabled steam overlay in DX12.

So yeah it's sad, but not surprising. Now we will see benches in DX11, where NVidia will still do better and no one will care when DX12 is finally out. Worst thing is I might have finished it by that point.

I wonder how much Nvidia paid for this "service"

they're using a modified Glacier Engine 2, which they call Dawn Engine: https://community.eidosmontreal.com/blogs/dawn-engine

dunno if Hitman (2016) is on Glacier Engine 3 or a modded Engine 2

 

Engine 2 was used in Hitman: Absolution (2012)
