i7 3930k vs i7 4930k

Go to solution Solved by BigD1970,

Wait, so you are getting a free 4930k? Go ahead

So i can sell the 3930 and get the 4930 for the same price so yeah pretty much free.Btw,ive only had this chip for 3 months and have done very light ocing on it keeping it at 4.2.

So i was wondering if anyone has gone from the 3930 to the 4930k and if it really is worth the change of performance. I have the opportunity to get the haswell for cheap so anyones thoughts would be helpful thanks. :D

There is roughly a 5-10% deference in real world performance between the two CPU's, but the 4930K seats on a 22nm die and the 3930K seats on a 32nm die.

There is no reason to get a 4930k if you already have a 3930k but if you don't have a 3930k then yes get it.

From what I am told it's something really small like 3%. It's completely not worth it considering Black Friday is coming up and Intel is already slashing the prices on old CPUs. You can even overclock the 3930k 3% to make yourself feel better. However, if you absolutely need it right now and they're the same price, go Haswell. If you already have a 3930k, it's pointless. I have an overclocked one myself and it's screamingly fast for everything.

5-10% and also the 4930K isn't Haswell it's based on Ivy-Bridge

I just replaced my 3960X with a 4930K and am pretty disappointed so far.  The 4930K needs to be clocked to 4.8GHz to match my old 3960X at 5GHz but the problem is that they hit the same wall that IB does around 4.6GHz making it difficult to reach 4.8GHz.  Mine will only do 4.7GHz at under 1.5V and that means a significantly lower physics score in 3dmark11.  I only switched to IB-E because the IMC on my 3960X went bad and I had to RMA it.  Now I'm wondering if I will keep this 4930K and sell the 3960X or if I will just return the 4930K and put in the new 3960X?  Still fiddling around with the OC so we'll see...
