Should I buy power supply separately from the case?

thatweirdguy69

So there are cases with and without power supply included. Is it worth it to go for the one with (for example) a 600 watt power supply included, or should I buy them separately? Can I expect a good quality of power supply from trusted manufacturers like Coolermaster and Corsair? It's suspicious to me that those with power supply included often turn out to be cheaper than just buying that same case + the same capacity power supply.

Btw, I'm choosing between Miditower Cooler Master K281 (500W, ~90$) and Miditower Cooler Master Elite431 (600W, 110$). I'm planning to have rx 480 + i5 6500, so 500W should be enough, right? Room for upgraids is always good though, I guess. :/

Thanks in advance everyone <3

you should buy seperate because the included PSUs are typically worse than or of the barely adequate variety.  Buying separate lets you get a good PSU that you know won't die for a long time.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

In almost all cases it's better to buy a good power supply separately, the ones included with cases are often subpar.

How do I choose a good PSU then? I know there is some sort of rating on them, but I didn't really have much time to research it properly. What brand should I pick?

Choosing between

1. Corsair CS550M 550W (~100$)

2.  Corsair CX550M 550W (~90$)

3.  Corsair CX650M 650W (~100$)

So golden certificate means better quality or how exactly does it work?

Yea 80+ gold is better most of the time.

Could you fit an XFX Core 550W in your price range? It's better than any of those Corsair units.

PSU's that are included in cases are usually terrible. Unless it's something like EVGA's Hadron where it's a custom PSU you should buy it separately.

The certification i.e Bronze, Gold, Platinum etc is just the efficiency rating. It has no bearing on the quality of the unit.

The Corsair CS is meh. The Corsair CX (With the Grey label) are fine.

If you can link us to the store you are buying from (And budget) then we can give you a better option.
