Choice between 8350, 4670K, E3 1230 V3

Making a new computer for my dad, he will mostly be using it for light web browsing, watching occasional movies etc

However he also recently bought a GoPro and is planning on taking 1080p video and editing it, so he's wanting decent CPU performance.

My three options I'm seriously considering are:

AMD FX 8350 for $230

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_1512&products_id=21806

Because of 8 physical cores at a very affordable price

i5 4670K for $270

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_1490&products_id=23495

Due to the good overall performance and overclocking ability

Xeon E3 1230 V3 for $300

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_1490&products_id=23861

Due to the near-i7 performance and hyperthreading.

For those interested in the rest of the build, the other components are going to be these parts or approximations of these.

ASRock H87 Performance Mobo $125.00
F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB RAM $99.00
Antec 620W Modular HCG-620M $115.00
60GB SSD $75
Seagate 3TB ST3000DM001 $142.00
And my used GTX 560ti

Which CPU of the three would you consider to be the best value? I believe my dad would want this computer to last quite a while which is why I'm considering the unlocked i5, but it won't be overclocked straight away. I'm mostly thinking can I get away with the 8350, is it an appropriate CPU considering the rest of the build? The computer isn't focused on gaming, just on light use and occasional but hefty video editing.

Edit: Just a quick note, I don't really mind at the moment about the lack of onboard graphics built into the Xeon, as the computer will be coming with a decent discrete graphics card. Just wanted to point that out.
He isn't a power-user so isn't crazily interested in "DEM GIGAHERTZ" But he is looking for a decent machine that won't break the bank too much.

8350 and OC it until it hurts.

8350 all the way!

Okay, if I do go the AMD route with overclocking, which I'm not too keen to overclock too much due to possible stability issues, can I just throw a decent budget air cooler on that baby and let her rip up @4.5Ghz?

The case he's inheriting also has pretty bad airflow as well, so heat and noise will be something to consider.

you can get a case for like 25 bucks, i suggest that. and dont get budget aircoolers. go for something like a scythe mugen or NH-D14

you will get 4.5ghz with an 8350 and a hyper 212 evo but you will need to get a good motherboard like a 990fx or 970 one

get 8350 becuze it seems to u dont want a z87 board for overclocking the 4670k.

so get 8350 an doverclock to 6 ghz!

Perhaps I'll overclock it more extensively in the future if he feels performance is lacking but doesn't want to upgrade just yet. And it's alright, everybody gets the "moar hertz" bug every so often, especially with AMD :P

Not looking for performance in games, more in video editing.

Unfortunately I can't get a new case, especially for such a low price here in Australia. The issue with forking out for an NH-D14 is that it will cost me another 90 bucks which will make it even more expensive than the Xeon, I may as well buy an i7 for that overall cost. Sure it's an investment for the future but so would an i7. Tricky question, I suppose.

you will get 4.5ghz with an 8350 and a hyper 212 evo but you will need to get a 990fx motherboard

I'm not too familiar with AMD motherboards, having worked more extensively within the Intel section of the market. Would the ASRock 970 Extreme4 motherboard be suitable?

the 8350 route is what i would suggest, put something like a hyper 212 evo on there, you dont have to oc but that cooler will keep it much cooler then the stock cooler ever could and thats what i would personally do even if i wasnt gonna oc youll have the option later on

FX8350 will be better for editing/rendering than the 4670k and be just as quick in doing the other stuff you mentioned. There's absolutely no reason to OC it tho for the intended usage - it will just make the thing run hot and loud.

Because the purpose of this PC is not gaming, also overclocking will introduce instability and shorten the life of the CPU.

Okay so it's been a pretty overwhelming response toward the 8350. Do the extra four physical cores add much in the way of overall performance, or only when significantly overclocked? How does the 8350 stand against the other two Intel cpus? I've looked up a lot of benchmarks and the i5 and 8350 look neck and neck on game benchmarks but the computer will only be doing the occasional gaming when I'm over at his place.

unless you really push the chip or get really high temps then the life wont be shortened enough for the user to notice and oc'ing will still have benefits when editing

Go for the 8350, but don't buy the mobo you've listed as the 8350 won't fit on it =P

for intel pins are on the mobo and amd have the pins on the cpu so you would need some serious plier skills there :P

My votes for the xeon or the 8350!

There is basically zero point in getting the 4670k at this point in time IMO.

Yeah, well I mean you are basically getting a 4770k that has 4 cores and 8 threads of video editing and rendering goodness and only clocked 200mhz slower, plus if you really would like to overclock you have the option to use base clock adjustments.
