Is a GTX 970 Still Worth Buying?

EidS

Hello ,

I am looking to buy a new graphics card for my new computer that I am building. Since the pricing is going down on the GTX 970, I am not sure if it is still worth getting the card if it is cheaper than the 1060.

Current Parts :

Intel i5-6600k

MSI Z170-A PRO

Corsair CX Series CX650M 650W

HyperX Fury DDR4 8GB RAM

Rosewill Stealth

Honestly, no. The GTX 1060 performs on par with the 980 and is cheaper. Get a 1060.

For 100$ it's worth buying it.

For 150? yap still sounds like good deal.

200$ ? You can get RX 480 for that money.

So it depends on price.

Where the hell can one get an aftermarket RX 480 for 200$?

If you can get your hands on a GTX 970 for $150 or less, I'd do it. It's still a good value at that price.

It depends on your country and region etc.

Aftermarket RX 480 for 200$? probbably not. But for a bit more? It's possible.

As I said before, it depends on prices.

If you can get RX 480 for same price as GTX 970, then go for RX 480. Simple as that.

I would even pay 30$ more just to get RX 480 instead of gtx 970.

I also saw a $399 Fury X as well.  $279 GTX 1060.

I saw used GTX 980 around $250 as well.

970 are dead unless the deal is ridiculous. I'd sell my card now if I had the money to throw in for the GTX 1060 but I don't at the moment.

Unless you're getting a very good deal. Always buy the newest when it comes to technology.

In Norway, the 970 is still 40% more expensive than the 480. While the bargain bin, ''returned and fixed'' cards are about 20% more expensive and about the same price as most 1060s.

If the 970 was an upgrade i would not even consider it unless it was really cheap, like 100-130USD.

SSD2: Samsung MX500 500GB

PSU: Corsair AX860i Platinum
