Dual graphics cards

My current build features an r9 380 but I'm looking into getting an RX 480 as they are super cheap and I've got some spare cash. Is it possible, with an i5 6500, to run an RX 480 with an r9 380 together at the same time together without any issues? If there are any issues with that what are they and are they cheap to avoid?

If you're thinking of Crossfire, it won't work. They're two different GPU architectures.

For some DX12 optimised games that support multi GPU system or something like that, it could work.

But right now? 99,9% games won't be able to use both cards. It's differend architecture, so you can't crossfire those two cards.

 

Just get RX 480 and use it as a single card, untill you can get more money for 2nd RX 480.

Also you can sell your 380, so you will only have to add like 100-150$ more for 2nd GPU.

Then you can run it in crossfire

You simply can't CFX 2 completely different AMD cards together. AMD allows much more flexible crossfiring of their GPUs compared to Nvidia but they have to have the same core where the 380 and 480 are on completely different architectures. Obviously there's DX12 but literally no games support it yet so at the moment, it would be a very bad buy.

AMD cards don't have that crossfire pins on PCB anymore.

Crossfire works over motherboard now.

 

You could crossfire it with another R9 380, but that would be bad idea.

It's never good to put 2 budget cards in crossfire or SLI.
