i7 6700k high temp spikes (2 month build_

I've had this problem since I built the PC. My not overclocked i7 would get temp spikes to 80-83C with a Cryorig H7. I decided to grab a water cooler, Corsair 110i. I still get close to 78C when gaming. I've reapplied thermal paste at least a dozen times. I have two fans pulling from the front, two from the cooler pulling up and a fan in the back pull out. I can't figure out what else I can do to solve these high spikes.

Whats your overclock and voltage? You simply might be pushing the chip far beyond what capable of, remember that just because it's a K doesn't means they're all good overclockers, hence the term sillicon lottery.

I wouldnt really considr that high temps but its definatly higher than youd expect for no overclock. Run aida64 and see what kind of voltage its using.

Check your bios to see if anything funky is going on with the voltages and also get CPUZ to monitor your voltage and clock speeds to see if anything is abnormal while you game. Also what are your ambient temps?

It is actually not overclocked. My volts are maxed at 1.344

Also whats your anbient temp if its a really hot climate it could just be that.

id set the voltage manually to 1.25v and test with aida64

Or start at 1.3v and work down

1.344 volts seems kinda high for not having an overclock. The cpu is probably overcompensating for the vdroop or something.

as said above it should not be going up to 1.34 or 1.35 if you havent touched anything for overclocking. If it was at the regular 1.2 or 1.25 than the temps would stabilize to a lower temp. Its quite curious thats its pushing that voltage by itself, i wonder what is making it do that.

I agree. I reset the bios to default settings twice. How should I go about changing my volt? In bios or in a program?

Use the bios, programs can cause instabilities and bsods.

I set it to 1.25, now my max is 64C! I'm satisfied. Thanks for the help everyone!
