Upgrade to 1440p or 120hz+?

Hey guys, been thinking about my next upgrade lately, and I'm looking at Monitors.

Currently I have 2 Asus 1080p 60hz monitors, and I can't decide between 1440p 60hz or 1080p 120hz+.

My rig setup is...

  • Corsair 230T Mid Tower
  • Asus Z97-AR Motherboard
  • 120GB Samsung 850 SSD Boot Drive
  • 2 x Seagate 1TB 7200rpm Sata Drives in Raid 0
  • 16GB 1600Mhz Corsiar DDR3 Ram
  • Intel i7-4790k @ 4.6GHz
  • ASUS GTX 970 Strix 4GB Graphics Card
  • Corsair M65 RGB Mouse
  • Logitech G710+ Keyboard
  • Logitech HD C310 Webcam
  • Logitech Z506 5.1 Surround Sound
  • XFX Warpad
  • 2x Asus VN247 1920x1080p Monitors

My plan is to upgrade my monitors, then upgrade my GPU sometime after that.

I don't really play twitch games, but I also know that I enjoy the eye candy of lots of frames.

I watch Youtube videos, and play Tabletop Simulator more than anything. As well as occasional RPGs.

I'll probably go to my local electronic store and look at the difference if they have something on display.

144hz

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

The increased pixel density of 1440p will produce clearer, more colour-rich and deeper image-impressions. Higher than 60 Hz will produce clearer, more consistent and seamless image-impressions. Both are good to have.

I would personally go for 1440p seen as you don't play twitch games. I have the exact same card and I'm going for 144hz because of Counter Strike. You could use supersampling to get the clarity of 1440p and the refresh rate of 144hz. LTT video linked below:

144hz and 1440p with GTX 970? Just in really light games, like CS GO.

Thanks everyone, I'll probably get the 1440p Monitors.

I tried doing the 1440p scaling, but it didn't look so good, probably my monitors.
