PSU Tier List [OLD]

Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

This is a legacy list. It is no longer being updated.

The new PSU Tier List can be found here:

New CX line that was announced at Computex? I don't believe there was one. The most recent PSU models we launched are the TXM gold and the HX platinum.

Can you confirm that these non-modular CX are on the Great Wall platform and not the CWT that the CXM are made of? Edit: Jonnyguru says exactly that on the forum post. Apparently some tension with Great Wall

Also according to JonnyGuru the CX are rifle bearing, while the CXM are sleeve bearing IIRC. Sad to know that as a CX450M owner

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Looking at the internals through the vents, you should be able to see that there's a different layout between the CX450 and CX450M. While it is true that the CX450 has a better rifle bearing fan, it offer inferior connectivity in which it only have one 6+2 pin PEG connectors for the graphic card while the CX450M has two. This make the CX550 the only viable option from this lineup, IMO (well, if you only have a GPU that requires a single PEG connector, I guess it doesn't matter - still disappointing nonetheless).

The CX450 also had been advertise using "The LLC resonant topology with DC to DC ensures complete compatibility with all modern day PCs."

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cx-series-cx450-450-watt-80-plus-bronze-certified-atx-psu-kr

While the CXM is double forward: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/corsair-cx650m-psu,4770-3.html

Along with the confirmation by Jonny, all those points should shows that the platform is different from the CXM that you have EnergyCore. It's just a matter of seeing a review of this new CX platform - which you can get an idea of it by looking at the Riotoro Onyx 650w review. Although, Jonnyguru.com doesn't test for transient load (just Transient Overshoot), which the LLC topology doesn't handle as well as double forward. It did seem that it helped the GW based CX to have higher efficiency, as it achieve 80+ Plus Silver almost throughout its entire load range.

You can tell the difference between the older CX from whether or not it has the grey label as well. Think of the new 2017 CX series as the non-modular version of the new grey CXM in that regard.

Wait so there wasn't a gray labeled non modular CX before? Oh good to know.

You're right, it's not the worst. It's second worst only ahead of the bomb chinese units that blow up when you load them.

Just because it didn't blow up the second you turned it on doesn't make it good.

And you're willing to risk that much money worth of hardware with a PSU that could kill your components?

The TR2 isn't bad because it blows up, it's bad because it will slowly kill the rest of the computer without you noticing.

It feeds bad, unclean power to them which will cause small things on the motherboard or GPU or Hard drive to wear out faster or sometimes just give out.

@Zaki_Owais MY PSU IS CRAP FROM PRE-BUILT BUT IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS because I use GF9400GT.

How can I EXPLAIN THIS?

"Make it future proof for some years at least, don't buy "only slightly better" stuff that gets outdated 1 year, that's throwing money away" @pipoawas

-Frequencies DON'T represent everything and in many cases that is true (referring to Individual CPU Clocks).

Mention me if you want to summon me sooner or later
