got a moniter but no internet

i got a monitor form a friend and it works fine but when i close my laptop lid the internet will stop it says connected no internet and then it just disconnects from the network any ideas on how i can fix this

Can you clarify what the problem is?

 

from what i understand, you are connecting your monitor to your laptop, and when you close the laptop lid, the internet stops.

how is your monitor connected

are you using WIFI

Change the battery mode to performance and see if that does anything.

Your laptop is set to go to sleep when you close the lid. You can change that... somewhere in the power management settings I think.

i have set my laptop up to do nothing when i close the lid i am connected though a VGA then and adapter to HDMI i am on a wifi network

Do you switch to projected mode or just plug-n-play?

its a hp pavilion not sure on model i just plugged it in and change it to second screen only

i am using VGA to a HDMI adapter then into my computer  and when i close the lit to just use the monitor the internet just stops and disconnects everything else works just not the monitor
