Need Help Converting VHS to Digital

Henry

(I have no idea which board to post this topic in)

Hey everyone, I need your help.

I got a bunch of VHS home videos I wanna convert to a digital format. I want the best quality possible, uncompressed quality if possible (since the videos were already poor in quality, I wouldn't want the quality to look even worse than what it already is). What device should I buy? I'd like specific product recommendations please. I have a beefy PC if that matters.

Folding for LTT since April 2016.

You could play the vhs and capture from your TV. Not the best idea but I'm curious if there's such a tool too

Theres too many tools out there, most of which I have never heard of, so I have no idea which to use.

You need capture card and VHS player with suitable output. Or combo device which has VHS player and DVD burner.

Go buy like elgato or something like an HDR and record the Movie/anything you want. Cannot figure out best solution lol. Or plug the vhs tape to your PC and record it from there, I don't know whether or not it would work.

I saw that some people had audio sync issues on the Amazon reviews for the elgato video capture

Well, you could have some other HDR devices, do you have digital TV? if yes you could possibly ask one from the company. If not, you could buy one I guess

You're not going to get a higher quality than what is on those tapes. Garbage in, garbage out.

You probably want to buy a high end VHS player they shouldn't be that expensive anymore. Of course on eBay or something similar.

You'll also need a capture card like https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity

1.Record it uncompressed

2.edit your recordings(if necessary)

3.compress them with handbrake

I was going to get that, but then I read the horrible reviews on Amazon.
