I'm building a new computer.  Found out today I accidentally ordered two Samsung 850 Evo 500gb.  I also ordered one Samsung 950 Pro 512gb.  I was planning on having my OS and games on the Pro and everything else on the Evo.  The computer will be used for games, streaming my game play, recording game play, and editing those videos.  I have an external hard drive that I move completed videos to and will keep a back up of my system.

Now that I found out about having the extra Evo (i'm not going to return it), the question about whether or not to RAID0 has come into play.  I've searched and read multiple articles online with conflicting thoughts.  If all my recording game play is on the Evo and the video editing software is there as well, would RAID0 benefit me?  I have an external hard drive that will back up my system so RAID failing wouldn't be a total loss, more of an annoyance.

Also, if I choose to RAID0 the Evo's, is that something I setup in BIOS before installing Windows 10 on the Pro?  I'm new to building computers, only 3 under my belt and they all just had a single Evo.  This will be my first build with multiple SSD's.  Sorry for long post.

i would just use them for separate drives, not in any raid

also you should keep your games and files on the evos, not the OS drive

makes clean installations much easier, and a lot safer too

the 950 pro is just a waste of money because it will make no difference at all for games and programs, but you already bought it so not much you can do about that

video editing with the video files on the 950 would be a benefit though

so maybe use that as a scratch disk instead of the evos

then use the evos for storage along with your external hard drive for backups

Yeah, that's pretty much the only situation where RAID0 gives you a real benefit. So go nuts.

Thanks for the replies so fast. =) LOL it really seems to just come down to each persons preference huh.  Even here some say RAID and some say no.  I'm not worried about them failing because I'll have a backup.  Ok one last question.  If I'm editing my recorded game play videos, would that be faster on the Evo RAID0 or Pro?  Maybe install the OS in the RAID0 Evo's and use the Pro for editing?  ugghhh more questions.

if your going to use Raid, use Raid 1, not 0. The drives are incredibly fast as it is and with Raid 1 you would mirror all your data so if one failed, you would have it all still without missing a beat.
