Powercolor RX 480 Devil pictured-a bit of a dissapointment

Djole123

So the R9 390X2 Devil was a monster of a graphics card-it featured two R9 390X chips inside of a triple slot packaging.

So, you might be thinking: "Well, since Powercolor teased the Devil thingy on their website, there must be a new double RX 480 card, right?"

Welllllllllllllllll, you'd be dissapointed by this leaked picture:

POWERCOLOR-Radeon-RX-480-DEVIL.jpg

If you still can't see why it's a dissapointment, well, it will be a single GPU card. Dual RX 480 solution can't be powered through a single 6 pin connector, and it takes up two PCI slots, so it's definitely not a dual RX 480.

Don't get me wrong, this is a beautiful card and it will certiandly be a great OC'er with that beefy cooler, but what I'm trying to say is that this shouldn't be named Devil because Devil cards are dual GPU, while this one isn't. If you were expecting that, I'm sorry, but it won't be a dual GPU card.

I'm really not sure why there's any confusion?

The R9 390X2 Devil card was a.... 390X2. The dual GPU cards have the X2 designation.

Besides, Powercolor generally only creates an X2 card for the top of the line flagship card.

Expect a RX 490X2 or similar. Not the 480...

Ed from Sapphire says their Nitro card will have an 8 pin connector, but you can use it with a 6 pin. So the extra 2 pins are optional for OC (I guess).

I wish more people would read the article and the comments I made under it. It has 8-pin connector, they were just testing it with 6-pin cable.

Not all DEVIL cards were dual-GPU, so I'm not sure how is this a disappointment.

What I'm trying to say is that it shouldn't be called RX 480 Devil, because Devil cards have two GPUs while this one has only a single GPU.

Well yeah the article doesnt correspond with the picture obviously.

Anyway, still funny to see that no one exaly mentioned the diffrence between a 6 and a 8 pin power plug.

Thats the only hint i´m gonne give too you guys :D

That's quite simply a factually incorrect statement...

I'll just leave this here:

Devil cards are not exclusively dual GPU cards. They always have the X2 notation in the product number.

The difference is that the extra pins are for ground only to increase stability of the increased current that is allowed. Theoretically, a six pin can deliver the same current as an eight pin.

You are correct, the Devil 13 series are the dual GPU's. And they generally always throw the X2 designation in the product model number or name.

You should probably read up on PowerColor's naming scheme.

Devil 13 is the name used for Dual gpu cards. Devil is used for their highest end offering(If they decide to have one). PCS+ and Devil cards are their higher end offerings.

Also, repost.

Apparently it does have an 8-pin connector, but unless you're OC'ing, you can still use a 6-pin connector and leave the 2x extra ground pins disconnected.
