Technology too expensive in other countries

I was planning to get an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 as I heard it was going to be around $400 (£300.90) but was annoyed to find that it would be over £400 ($531.71+) in the UK due to shipping and tax (VAT) additions.

 

I was then going to get a Radeon RX 480 but the performance was just not as good as I thought it would be for a card thats over £200 ($265.87+) in the UK that was said to be under $200 (£150.45).

 

Shipping and tax I can understand, up to a certain point, but now its simply too much. In the UK, tax can increase the price of a particular product up by 20% and while shipping isn't always that much of an issue, I have seen products go over twice the price of a product due to both tax and shipping. (Though it's quite rare) 

 

When we do find products that we think is a decent price, we still get sudden and unexpected tax sent to us from a specific shipping or any other business company. 

 

All this is not the manufacturers fault at all but I'm just annoyed, along with other people, to find that we simply can't buy a product due to the area where we live in. I understand that companies are usually of American manufacture and again it's not their fault.

 

Oh yeah, there's also the fact that European products can be sent to North America with usually, but not always, low to no tax. (In particular states anyway)

 

I simply just want to say to those who live in North America are extremely lucky and I hope one day that this issue will be fixed, even if the UK left the EU.

Only the us, Canadain prices are fucking hilarious. 

 

Isps here charge $100 for like 2gb of data on a 2 year contract

 

$100 gets you 100/10 (200/10) though for home internet

 

try https://Apple.ca/ and iPhone. Holy shit $900 for 16gb 6s

 

480 costs $300 though. 

But 1070 is like $500.

 

minimum wage here is $7 in the lowest parts. 

 

Edit; just read the whole post and rip. We only have 13% tax here in Ontario and that's the highest tax out of all the provinces.

lol spain is even worse, average disemployment in my area is around 40% and Im paying 40€ for 0.29 down.  Luckily I found a retailer wich sells rx 480 for 260€ but still cheap compared to shops selling them for 350 up.

canadian prices are almost exactly the same as the US prices with the conversion applied

 

a $650 USD GTX1080 is about $840 CAD

so yeah, pretty much exact conversion with no additional taxes or import fees, which is great

The higher prices in Europe is not only attributable to taxes and shipping. 

Most electronics are manufactured in East Asia, so the shipping cost is about the same to Europe as it is to America. 

Wages in Western European countries tend to be higher than their American counterparts, which is often times reflected in the price. 

For example, the lowest wage a McDonald's employee can get in Denmark is $20/h which is almost double of what their American colleagues.

 

There is also the problem with competition (or rather, lack thereof). A lot of the resellers of electronics in Europe tend to face little to no competition, since people tend to shop locally.

The ISP thing isn't perfect by far. I pay $100 for 750Kb/s down and 650Kb/s up. Talk about monopoly

Even when the board and components are made in Asia region

 

Singapore for many years have to deal with inflated prices as well

 

the spanking new GTX 1080 that you guys prob pay for like 600+ dollars will cost us in excess of 1.1K SGD
