US government shuts down after Congress fails to pass funding bill

CyberneticTitan

Yep.

At this stage, I am certain both Democrats and Republicans are severely disappointed of their representatives in DC and I wouldn't blame them.

Doesn't the UK have a butt-load of parties?

Yes it does indeed and they leech of votes to a degree , personally I'm a supporter of the Liberal Democrats but since their coalition with the Conservative party I've been very disappointed with the lack of input they've actually had in this coalition and it's almost like they're just for show since Nick Clegg has practically been David Cameron's bitch and he pretty much shows himself to announce bad news. Tbh we haven't really got good parties but the current government is doing fairly well besides all the job cuts and budget cuts and benefit cuts and housing cuts :P the list goes on but tbh they need these cuts to regain the money to invest in ways of earning more money so they can begin to redevelop all of the socialist aspects of the country :)

This.

I work for an Insurance Licensing company. Due to the nature of our business, we pay attention to insurance too (not just how to get licensed to sell it, but what you actually sell).

I have seen how this affects the average blue collar worker. Simply put, shit be wack yo. (AKA, this is a horrible plan and will hurt more than it helps by a long shot).

actually, most other contries lack super-advanced healthcare (are overloaded) due to the public healthcare system. i've heard people in the UK have to WAIT FOR THE ER.

1 - America does not have access to any equipment that the UK, Germany, France, etc, does not also have access to.

2 - The reason you heard that people have to wait for the ER is because you listen to scaremongering propaganda in the American media. It's just not true.

You were randomly breaking out insults against Britain for no reason other than to be racist.

How about you actually address the points I made or you admit your position is indefensible?

When did British become a race?

"Independent".. what a joke lolol

As in, screw both parties no matter what, you get my vote if you're the lesser of two evils or if I agree with you on what I like, since I lean all kinds of ways instead of being plain conservative or plain liberal.

I actually have that exact same question. When did British become a race?

A race is defined by physical characteristics of a people, and thereby, their lineage/blood line and effectively where their ancestors are essentially from. European, South African/North African, Asian (you can add cardinal directions to all of them really), Native American, etc etc, are races because they are defined by the physical characteristics of the people originally (as far back as history can show us) from those regions.

If a black person (I used black to eliminate the need to be redundant in words) is born in Britain, they are still African by race. If I were born in Britain, I would still be whatever I am (Spanish, Native American, European, etc.).

If you are talking about the people who lived in the area Britain covers back in the day, then they are generally defined as Europeans because many of the people in Europe in that time were similar in appearance, so specifically pointing out Britons is the same as saying Europeans since they are generally regarded as the same. The only time each people get their specific own race definition is when they are physically unique. The Irish are a good example. Red hair is fairly noticeable.

Race is physical appearance.

Ethnicity is cultural background. So saying your ethnicity is Britain makes a wee bit more sense than your race. Even if it still doesn't make sense to me because I don't refer to anything as "Britain", but rather by more specific location (England as an example) such as country or township.

As in, screw both parties no matter what, you get my vote if you're the lesser of two evils or if I agree with you on what I like, since I lean all kinds of ways instead of being plain conservative or plain liberal.

This.

So if I call a French person a cheese eating surrender monkey that isn't racist? Cool!!

Please stop messaging me about this. It's just such a moronic question. I'd really rather not have to block people. Just talk about the OT -.-

Yeah, this has already been gone over and is a bit redundant now. Let's focus on the topic at hand and that is American politics have gone cray cray.

I think you are (or we have) redefining (redefined) racism to mean something it doesn't. But whatever.

Because I'd rather not have a debate about whether or not race can transcend national boarders. Moreover, as most people don't understand the complexities of Britain as both a Country and a Union of Countries, it would mean I'd have to first explain about 300-400 years of very complex socio-political history.

The dictionary defines a race as a group of people of a common descent. "British" is the definition both of a race and a nationality. Let's leave it at that.

And on that note, I was wrong. I realized my error. I apologize.

Now, about American politics... (Because the United States, for whatever reason, claims "American" as it's own even though there is a lot more to America)

Like I said, I don't want to get into 300-400 years of complex socio-political history. I could, but I won't.

Just take it at this: "British" can define both a race and a nationality. I fill out my tax forms defining both my race and nationality as British. My friend Martin would say his nationality is British but his race is Mixed Jamaican and British.

It's really just too complex to get into.

A thought has occurred since I have yet to receive a flash drive in the post in spite of it being flagged as "delivered".  (Granted, there is a possibility it might be at the post office for some reason or a cousin is really bad at handing off mail..) - Since the USPS is government ran, would people awaiting important letters be screwed?

No. I read a FAQ regarding the shutdown. The USPS is a separate business entity. It can run on it's own because it pays it's own bills via the fees you pay for the mail (for stamps and such). Go ask your cousin about it then go to the post office if he knows nothing.

That's good to know at least. I always get really paranoid when I'm expecting something and the tracker says delivered when I don't physically have what I ordered in my hands.
