Display Driver 368.39 for my GTX 1070 constantly crashing upon launching games

So I come to you guys after seeking help over at r/nvidia and r/nvidiahelp, along with the GeForce Forums who actually mocked me instead of helping me for not knowing how to use a few tools...

 

My problem is that I've just built a fresh rig, fresh hard drives, fresh CPU, fresh everything. All components used in this rig have never been used prior is my point, and just incase if it helps here are my system specs:

- Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 Black
- Corsair Air Series AF140 140mm Purple LED Quiet Edition x2
- MSI Z170A SLI Plus LGA 1151
- Intel Core i5-6600K
- Noctua NH-D15
- Nvidia GTX 1070 Founder's Edition
- CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB DDR4 x2
- CORSAIR RMx Series RM850X

- Windows 10 Home

 

Continuing, my problem is that when playing any game, any game at all no matter how demanding, the game crashes with this notification appearing right after:

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver, Version 368.39 stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

 

I was led to believe it was a TDR of sorts but discarded that though because there's an actually coherent message instead of a string of letters where "NVIDIA Windows Kernal Mode Driver" is. I did a bit of digging and found out that with this recent 368.39 driver, a lot of people with similar specs to mine started having this problem, for some it was occurring almost all the time, others were fine until their game crashed no more than 5 min in like me. People told me I got a faulty card (which is entirely possible), but my temps on everything have been just fine, and when my games run for the short time they do they give me glorious frames (Witcher 3 Ultra gave out a good 60-80 FPS with no stuttering), which leads me to believe it's not the card but rather the driver 368.39 itself. I'd downgrade to an earlier one but this current driver is the only one that supports the 10XX cards.

 

What's weird is I have this exact same driver on my AMD Athlon 860k/GTX 960 build with no problems at all, but then yet on my current build I'm having these problems. I built this current rig the exact same way I did my previous one, so I have no clue what could be causing this, any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

It turns out i did a little snooping and it turns out everybody's pc is glitching bugging with crashes that have this driver,its not the card but i honestly dont know why Nvidia does this to there costumers bunch of pricks and dicks the best solution is to wait for things to stable but that could take months,or refund your card and go with AMD since they have been getting so good at there drivers + full dx12/mantle support thats why i always loved AMD because they dont dickoff there costumers like Nvidia

I guess you may just have to wait for a driver update and see if this still happens, there should be driver updates pretty soon as it is a very new card.

people get glitches,bugs,screen tearing that with there 980 Ti's,750 Ti's,980's etc thats why i always hated Nvidia poor service but AMD is getting good with there drivers + full dx12/mantle support , my HD 7970 is going to be good as a GTX 780 just because nvidia nerfed the last gen cards and AMD is gimping the old* gen cards

Yeah it's unfortunate, I would downgrade but 368.39 is the only driver that supports the 1070

yep, 64 bit Win, 64 bit everything, can't figure out what's going on, temps are fine, nothing unusual at all with performance besides the crashing.

do you have msi afterburner installed on your pc? If you do try downclocking your card a little and see if anything happens

nope, haven't overclocked anything and quite frankly I don't know how to either, running at stock performance is fine by me. Is there monitoring software in Afterburner that can help or something?

Download it and lower your core clock by 100 mhz and see if that does anything.

Downclocking it is totally fine, although there should be no need to...

you should be fine, i'll guide you through it. Once you install it just slide the slider that says core clock(mhz) to the left a little. then hit apply in the bottom left

no. That's the 1080 driver.

Try using DDU and a fresh install of the drivers. I know of a 1070 and 1080 on them not having any problems. Though the 1080 is doing mostly rendering.

So did as instructed and then launched up Witcher 3, game was running fine without any stuttering, no FPS drop, and then about 20 min in the Display Driver crashed, this is what the log showed, the dip you see in the middle was from when the Display Driver crashed.

Try older drivers
