Hey, guys. So my friend just got a new CPU and he offered to loan me his old i5 4690k until I get a new CPU. Currently, I have an i3 4330 and I want to upgrade, but I'm waiting for Zen to release to upgrade. My friend offered to loan th i5 to me for $60 until I upgrade, which may or may not be soon, I'll have to ask him about that. Anyway, is the i5 4690k a good upgrade from an i3 4330 for $60 USD? Zen is a little ways off and I was thinking I might not even get that, but wait for Zen Plus. So I would probubly be using this CPU for two or three years, if my friend is okay with that. He's just trying to get it off his hands and make a little money. Sorry for rambling a little. Thanks.

What's an H/B board? Also, I do intend to overclock it. That's one of the things that makes the deal.

He means a motherboard with an H- or B-type chipset. In your case you need a motherboard with a Z97 chipset to be able to OC the 4690k.

Oh really? So my Z87 motherboard can't overclock the 4960k? My motherboard does support overclocking, but not on the 4960k? Why? I have a Gigabyte Z87MX-D3H-CF mobo.

And yes, the Z87 board will work, but make sure you update your BIOS before taking out the i3.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

Yeah I would go for it i upgraded from an I3 550 to a I5 650 on one of my first builds, breathed new life into an old rig.
