Why? 390 = 28nm manufacturing process 480 = 14nm manufacturing process You could crossfire the 290 and the 390 because the 390 is a 290 with optimisations in terms of power delivery and drivers. Posted June 8, 2016 Assuming those cards did actually work together you would still find very few people on this site who would recommend crossfire. Support is not great with some drivers coming a month after a games release if they do at all and scaling is not always great. Posted June 10, 2016 I'll echo most people. Stay away from Multi-Gpu, both xfire and SLI. If you're willing to spend that amount of cash on 2 GPUs, which will more than likely amount to more than $400 depending on the version, you might as well go for a single GPU costing that much. Sure, the theoretical performance may be worse, but the actual performance will be better in every single scenario where a Multi-Gpu setup will fall flat on its face. Not to mention all the fancy new DX12 features will, first, only be in DX12 games (DX11 games will still suffer the same issues), and even then only DX12 games in which the developer has accommodated Multi-GPU setups. Additionally, we have no Idea regarding actual RX 480 performance from 3rd party benchmarks yet. So, don't put all your eggs in one basket, and so on, and so forth. A little patience goes a long way for your bang for buck.
