X99 motherboards with Thunderbolt 3 support?

I'm curious if anybody has heard any news about X99 motherboards with Thunderbolt 3 support via USB-C(Thunderbolt 3) ports. I have seen lots of USB-C on new boards but only being advertised as 10Gbps, not the 40Gbps that Thunderbolt 3 supports.

The Asus is a little nicer on the eyes. The Asus has an onboard USB-C port and comes with an Add-On Thunderbolt 3 card. I wonder if this means that even though you can plug a Thunderbolt 3 device into the onboard USB-C (as it's being advertised on the Asus page) that you're limited to 10Gbps and the only the port in the Add-On card will give you 40Gbps, or if they both support 40Gbps. The Add-On card for the Asus looks like it has a Thunderbolt 2 port (and what looks to be a usb 3.0) on it also but that could just be a MDP.

The Gigabyte on the other hand is easier on the wallet but has hideous gold accents. Decent overclocking support is a feature I'm looking for too since I got the 6950x and want to squeeze every drop of horsepower out of that thing.

Multiple M.2 slots would be great on an x99 board too. I have my OS on my M.2 and it's blazing fast. Just wish I had a second slot to add in another card as a scratch drive.

Not currently. When the 1080's become readily available I'm ditching my 980ti and going 1080SLI. When I add a second card I'll still have a PCI-E slot left on my board for my FireWire card. The problem is my case (Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX) only has 4 expansions slots and they will be taken up by the 1080's.

The ideal motherboard for my situation would be an x99 mATX board with Thunderbolt 3. With the Thunderbolt 3 support I would be able to (in theory) use a Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter (if said adapter exists) and eliminate the need for a FireWire add-in card and I'd be able to keep my small build in the mATX Enthoo Evolv which I love. In order for that situation to be a reality I'd first need an mATX x99 board with Thunderbolt 3 support. Even then, the reality of that configuration relies on a Thunderbolt 3 to FireWire adapter being available. There are Thunderbolt 1/2 to FireWire adapters that I've used on different jobs. I'm just not sure the new combo TB3/USB-C port will support adapters.

It sucks that my build is being held back by an outdated connection like FireWire but the reality is that I get handed FireWire drives every month from clients and need to be able to mount them. So, without an mATX board with TB3 support and a working TB3 to FW adapter my only option would be to ditch my nice compact rig and step up to a larger case and board. Hopefully Intel's recent releases will spark some new flavors in the x99 line of boards on the market.

You could probably find a PCI-E expansion card to add additional m.2 drives.

The Gigabyte X99-Designare EX has a USB 3.1 Type-C with Thunderbolt 3 and still manages to look epic.

x99 can't do hardware raid with NVMe (aka no boot devices of multiple NVMe drives), and there is effectively no benefit to any consumer/prosumer in effectively any situation going to a NVMe drive. Including multimedia production.

Placebo is strong.

Yeah, if I'm honest I can't really tell the difference between my nVME SSD and my SATA SSD for program load times. Not without an automated stopwatch, anyway )
