Upgrade to 1080 from 970 SLI?

Hi guys,

My current setup is two 970s in SLI for my X34 Predator (3440x1440 @ 100Hz) for most games I can run max settings at 70-80 fps and high at 90-100 fps setup is dandy but some games don't do SLI or scale poorly etc.

I see that Nvidia claims that a 1080 is better than two 980s but most benchmarks don't support that

However, would it be worth it to upgrade from two 970s?

Thoughts?

if you can sell the 970s for about the same (or more) than the 1080, then do it. The 1080 is a great card.

From what I've seen the 1080 is similar to 980s in SLI, where it does better in some things and worse in others, owing mostly to the variance in SLI support.  If you're really tired of dealing with SLI issues, it would make sense to upgrade

i would for sure rather have a GTX 1080 vs 970 SLI...heck even a GTX 1070 for that matter...but i guess it depend how much you would have to get out of pocket for the upgrade...

I wouldn't upgrade in your case, unless you're going for a 2-way on the 1080's down the road. The 1080 will sometimes beat the 970's and sometimes not, you'd have about the same performance.

what benchmarks are you looking at??

pretty much all benchmarks show it to be the same as 980SLI

and better in about half of all games that do support SLI

and its 2x better in all games that dont support SLI obviously

and its pretty much always better than 970 SLI

so yes, its definitely a good upgrade

your first and last benchmark are the same

and those tests that show a "score" are BS

those are not real benchmarks

they have almost perfect SLI/CFX scaling, which is completely unrealistic

you need to look at the game benchmarks, measured in FPS, and you will see the 1080 is better in about 50% or more of all games (that support SLI)

and better in 100% of games that dont support SLI
