how do you control 3 pin fans?

3pin fans are controlled by varying the voltage. If you're asking how it works on the software side, it's no different than controlling pwm fans.

do i go into the bios? my mobos software can only control 4 pins

yes, try going into your bios and set to dc control instead of pwm control if that's an option

Very unlikely. Unless your mobo only has 1 fan header.

You should be able to control any 3pin fan with the sys_fan or cpu_fan headers using the motherboard settings.

ha i have the same mobo. and just bought 3 noctua industrial fans. and REALLY DO NOT like that i have to go into bios to change up the fan settings, not only that i dont understand the presets they have .75, 1, 2, 2.x

 

I hear about this SpeedFan a lot. but never a "safe" link to download it from.
