Shock mount

Lays

I really need a shock mount and a stand for my blue yeti, but I don't have the slightest idea of where to start.  I don't really have anywhere on my desk I can put it where its actually in front of me, so I was hoping I could get a stand with a mount where I can screw in the stand to the wall, and have it extend to me over my monitors

Try to keep it as cheap as possible if that's alright, skimping out on features is alright, just need it to be able to extend in front of me

I'm sure this is expensive for such a setup considering you stated you want it as cheap as possible, but you could mutilate an extending lamp arm and attach the radius shock mount linked below. I hope you know how to use a welder.

Here's a vertical mount for Boom arms: http://www.amazon.com/Heil-Sound-Vertical-Surface-Mount/dp/B0018TAIQI

Add a boom (dunno if it's universal, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was), then that shock mount @lukeptba suggested and you're golden.

you could do it Logan style, and wreck a lamp with retractable arm and use that, in combination with my first idea

It would be cheaper to tear apart a cheap swing arm lamp, but I'd be doubtful as to how well those would hold up a heavy microphone.

if it can hold Retina displays from LG, it can hold up a microphone.

Retina displays are much lighter than a big microphone + shock mount.

I've done exactly that with my Blue Snowball and an old lamp from Ikea, its one of those ones with the springs in the stand so it holds up pretty well but the base isn't heavy enough so if you pull it too far forward then it falls over. However using a lamp is actually a good idea, despite how silly it may sound. Although I haven't mounted mine using a shock mount.

I drilled holes through the legs of my mic stand and screwed it to the ceiling. It was in a vocal booth though, and not above my PC. I never used a shock mount to hold the mic.

What you're looking for is a studio arm. Instead of getting it to come over your monitor, bring it across from the side.

I think you missed the part about the price.

By not paying for a glorified metal extension they save $99.

He wants it as cheap as possible. I gave him something that is high quality and cheap. Nowhere in there did he say he didn't want to spend money on it. I gave him something that I would actually get and use.

OP: If you want a POS makeshift stand, then by all means, go with whatever everyone else has said.

But, if you want something that will work very well, last, and actually be designed for your usage, then you should get what I recommended. I also don't know how you would attach the shock mount to the other peoples stand idea, on top of that I doubt duct tape would be strong enough.

Building something by itself doesn't mean it has to be rubbish compared to shop bought parts. My stand contains zero duct tape and fixed in using the original Snowball stand and feeding it through the original lamp hole. Since it is a desk lamp stand I am also not limited to fixing it to my desk.

I agree its up to the OP what they want. I don't think you are looking for a shock mount more of a boom stand. Shock mount reduces vibration but still requires an actual stand to mount. So you could just buy one old build one, it is really up to you, but I'm not sure if the thing you are looking for is a shock mount.

Unless you lack the necessary motor skills and basic workshop skills to make something that is of a good standard of quality, there is no reason why my suggestion would fail.

My idea has worked for me. Boom mic stands are cheap and shock mounts screw on natively. Just screw the stand to the ceiling. It actually looks really cool as well. Ceiling studs 16" apart, you can use a speaker magnet to find nails in the sheetrock. It works even better if it's an old house with planks behind the plaster.

I can probably make one myself, i'd have to go use my grandpa's shop, and he doesn't even know about my PC because if he did he'd flip sh*t lol. They are very old-time and "stingy" if you will, and I'll take a picture of my setup so I can show why I can't really put it over the side.

I took 2, anyways: I want to put it mounted on the wall next to my right monitor, and bring it over the top of the right/middle monitor. I put my desk in the corner so I'd get a further distance away from my monitors so I could make the desk a lot bigger, plus I don't like the idea of rectangle desks for triple monitors, I think the angles become to harsh and you sit way to close, but that makes it a bit harder to position the mic without blocking a monitor, so I figured coming over the top with a stand would be much easier, then just getting a taller chair (i need a new chair anyways this one is worthless)

I need to repaint my desk, my mom found paint and decided to try to paint it and used ancient paint lmao, I came home and im like uh... mom wtf? lol

You will probably need a wall mounted microphone stand. Your best option then would be to mount it on the right wall, you're best bet is to look online for something that fits your needs. There will be plenty of options. But I'm not entirely sure.

Yeah me either thats why I asked for help xD, I think I could probably make one with stuff laying around my grandpa's shop, but if he asks what it's for then I have to lie lol >.< and I don't wanna do that coz I love my grandparents, they're awesome :]

I've got this lamp myself, and the mount is both vertical and horizontal. I've disassembled the lamp portion myself to grind down the bit preventing it from turning 360 degrees. The actual mechanism that holds the lamp on the arm is two pressure clamps grasping a cylindrical bar - the cylindrical bar attaches to the lamp shade via 2 screws. You could probably make these pieces work in your favor relatively easily if you want to go the mod route.
