I have a EVGA G2 Supernova 750watt PSU that I really love a lot. It's really stable and overclocking with it is fantastic! Recently though, Linus said something in a video that got me kinda confused. In was in the video "ORIGIN PC Un-build Log - Showcase & Teardown" He said "For power it doesn't get much more over kill than a 1300watt EVGA G2 and while the Supernova blows up everything and takes everything else with it". This is such a BROAD statement. What on earth did he mean and why did he said that?? Should I now worry about my G2 PSU? Will it blow up and take everything with it like he said? I thought the G2 Super Nova was a well respected PSU? Please help me understand what and why he said what he did.

Thanks.

I understood it as a "Linus-Joke".

He meant the event supernova, where a star explodes (according to Wikipedia :D ), not the PSU itself.

So there is nothing you need to worry about

it's just a joke about the stupid naming.

He means it is overkill for anything.

NOT that it damages components.

Well that statement he made was a poor choice one to make when he can't even be specific about what that statement meant.

The G2 is top notch nothing to worry about.

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Thank you all for the replies, I just wish Linus had made it more clear.

he did make it very clear, he said I CAN'T ARGUE WITH THE QUALITY

No, he said  a 1300 watt PSU is wayyy overkill and then went on to say, 'While the 'supernova,' blows-up-everything-and-takes-everything-else-with-it, branding of EVGA's power supplies doesn't make a lot of sense to me...' I don't know how that can be misconstrued? I always thought it was a strange name for something you DON'T want to explode, as a supernova is one of the most powerful forces in the known universe (they can create black holes).

Serious? Like really?

As in you actually thought he meant blow up in the sense of damaging components?

There is not enough face palm in the world.

I suppose Linus should've tried to emphasize it was a joke more. Like maybe with a zoom in on the face and a short pause with him smiling to throw the "supernova" punch line. He did skim through the joke quite quickly and those non-native english speakers or the younger audience whom don't know what a supernova is would be rather confused.

I have been watching Linus for years but because he did go through the joke so fast I was almost worried when I heard him say it.

Translation:

For power using 1300W PSU for these components is way over the wattage you actually would need1. Its named after stellar event about death of star2. Which would wipe out everything in its way and destroy whole solar system3.

1 overkill, 2 supernova, 3 blows up everything and takes everything else with it

E: After watching the video, he clearly says the EVGA tagline of Supernova blowing up everything and taking everything else with it, and continues saying that he doesn't get the meaning of it. So its acutally EVGA who claims their Supernova's will blow up and destroy all things near them. Someone in marketing didn't get the memo.

Ok ok, I get it. I'm sorry I was just worried and confused. End of story. Haha. xD
